As the
Assistant Director of Athletic Medicine , you will play a critical role in supporting the health, performance, and well-being of our NCAA Division I student-athletes—most notably Women’s Basketball—while working in a collaborative, high-performance athletics environment grounded in care, trust, and excellence. What You’ll Do
Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses for NCAA Division I student-athletes, with primary responsibility for Women’s Basketball. Serve as a trusted healthcare resource for student-athletes, coaches, and families by clearly communicating injury status, care plans, and return‑to‑play decisions. Collaborate with the Duke Athletic Medicine team to deliver integrated, evidence‑based care aligned with best practices. Educate and counsel student-athletes on injury prevention, recovery, and overall wellness. Maintain accurate, timely medical documentation and records in compliance with NCAA, institutional, and medical standards. Support additional sports or responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Athletic Medicine. What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Athletic Medicine, Kinesiology, or a related field. Certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC). Eligibility for licensure with the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners. Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. At least one year of athletic training experience required; three to five years preferred. Experience working with basketball student‑athletes strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, sound clinical judgment, and a commitment to student‑athlete well‑being. Minimum Qualifications
Work requires knowledge of general principles of preventive physical care for athletes, first aid treatment and referral, and post‑injury rehabilitation acquired through a bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine or related Athletic Trainer program. National Athletic Trainers Association certification is required. One year experience in administrative, educational or medical support services such as coordinating appointments, participating in physical training tasks, or providing first aid treatment.
