Mavis Tire - Tax Analyst, Tax + Treasury Position Summary and Responsibilities Your primary responsibilities include working with internal and external partners to ensure all sales and use tax compliance, audit, and accounting obligations are completed. Success in this role will require a passion for identifying and driving process improvements, enthusiasm for leading change, and a low tolerance for the status quo. Apply sales and use taxation knowledge to analyze and determine the applicability of sales & use tax on business purchases and ensure correct general ledger classification for enterprise-wide purchasing activity. Manage vendor questions for resale certificates and related processes. Qualifications Bachelors degree required, in Accounting or Finance 2+ years of Sales and Use Tax experience (public or private) Strong organization and time management attributes with ability to handle multiple priorities Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities Knowledge and ability to learn of current state and local (multi-jurisdictional) sales/use tax laws, concepts, policies, and regulations and the specific application of these to retail companies Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications; strong expertise in Excel required Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience a plus Experience and ability to respond to customers sales tax questions (includes ability to perform tax research and provide taxability guidance) Ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and tactfully, both verbally and in writing, successfully translating always-complex tax rules for business partners and customers. Essential Functions of the Position Responsible for the exemption/resale certificate process Collaborate with team members on providing appropriate exemptions and resale certificates to vendors and suppliers and respond to related inquiries Manage issuance of tax exemption certificates Register in new jurisdictions for sales/use tax purposes as needed Research and respond to sales/use tax questions submitted by internal and external customers, including responding in a timely, accurate, and complete fashion Provide guidance regarding taxability of products and services Provide support for D365 to ensure proper taxation Assist in audit defense efforts as needed Assist in reconciliation of sales/use tax workpapers including sales/use tax accounts Assist in the management of the monthly sales tax compliance process with outside service provider, ensuring accuracy and completeness Assist in the management of the indirect tax general ledger accounts and monthly tax reconciliations Respond to indirect tax notices and support indirect tax audits inquiries Assist with additional projects and assignments, including business registrations, trade name/DBA filings and annual reports, as required Prepare, file, and submit payment for various miscellaneous tax returns as needed Maintain the tax departments indirect tax filing calendar Maintain and update monthly process documentation as needed Recommend process improvement to elevate accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency Perform tax research using available research tools Contribute insights to the development of automated solutions to support our compliance process and tax-related systems Communicate effectively with team members and customers to provide exceptional service and support Employee Benefits At Mavis, we understand that our people drive our success.
