Full‑Time Position (40 hours/week) Position Summary The Director of Pastoral Ministry serves the parish by overseeing and coordinating ministries that provide spiritual, emotional, and physical care to individuals and families. Rooted in Catholic teachings and the mission of St. Joseph Parish (Reaching In, Reaching Out, Reaching God), this position ensures that all programs reflect compassion, mercy, and the dignity of every person. This full‑time role works closely with the pastor, staff, and volunteers to foster a community of support and service.

Education and/or Experience Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Social Work, or other related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Previous experience in pastoral care, chaplaincy, or a related ministry is highly desirable.
Practicing Catholic in good standing who demonstrates a working knowledge of theology that can be translated into practical pastoral and liturgical situations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with the public, colleagues, parishioners, and other agencies.
Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and demonstrated ability to learn and successfully use a variety of computer software products, office equipment, and office technology products.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
Must be able to work independently within church guidelines and expertise and show initiative to recognize problems and their solutions.
Demonstrated ability to work compassionately with community members who are ill, disabled, elderly, or grieving.
Successful completion of Virtus training and appropriate background checks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate and oversee ministries that provide pastoral care, including but not limited to:
Visiting or setting up phone calls to the sick, homebound, and those in hospitals or care facilities.
Coordinating Eucharistic Ministers to bring Communion to the homebound.
Coordinating hospital visits with the pastor for those requiring sacraments.
Providing support and follow up for those who have been ill, or for families who have lost a loved one.
Coordinating outreach to those experiencing crisis or other life transitions, coordinating with staff and/or finding volunteers as needed for providing meals, referrals, or other means of support.
Overseeing the OCIA program and coordinating a team of volunteers who will journey with those who are coming into the church.
With the New Member Committee, planning bi‑annual events to welcome new parishioners and following up with new members as they settle into the parish.
Planning an annual volunteer appreciation event for all parish volunteers.
Maintain records of pastoral visits, outreach efforts, and care ministry activities while respecting confidentiality.
Provide ongoing training and mentorship for volunteers as needed for their ministries.
Assist Music Director with liturgies as needed.
Coordinate with the pastor and other staff members to assess ongoing and future pastoral needs.
Attend Diocesan retreats, seminars, and small group discussions as related to the position.
Perform other duties as assigned.
ADA Physical/Visual/Mental Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Driving is an essential function of this position, which requires the employee to hold a valid driver’s license. This position requires intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching as well as the ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Typical Working Conditions Frequent work in office setting during regular business hours, however, position may require travel to community persons’ residence, hospitals and/or long‑term care facilities during evenings and weekends several times per week. Work schedule can be flexible to accommodate longer workdays, evenings, and weekends.
