
Senior Price Reporter, Shipping and Freight

The Team: The Americas shipping team consists of five market reporters who assess freight for crude and refined products tankers and containers. The team also includes three researchers who handle expansive projects to widen our offerings to customers and differentiate Platts from competitors. The right candidate for this role will be a curious, independent and enthusiastic team player with a keen interest in market reporting in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment where market‑moving changes can occur daily. We value and foster a collaborative team environment that encourages working together.
Responsibilities and Impact
Americas Tanker Market Assessments – Assessing the value of a defined set of tanker markets with sharp accuracy on a daily basis. Travel is encouraged to scope out relevant events in the Americas and internationally for speaking/presenting opportunities and to widen source contacts.
High‑Quality Market Commentaries – Responsible for writing market commentaries associated with tanker freight assessments to help readers understand what is happening in the market and the rationale behind the freight rates.
Market News – Reporting news and analysis relating to and impacting Americas tanker markets to help readers understand what is happening in the marketplace, including supply/demand developments, geopolitical events, government data, new developments in regulations, analyses of price trends, and other relevant topics.
Market Engagement – Engaging with shipping market participants including brokers, traders, port authorities and other parties impacting tanker markets.
Compensation & Benefits Information S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $105,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We’re Looking For Basic Required Qualifications
Drive to develop knowledge of North and South American oil shipping markets. Understanding of market fundamentals is necessary in order to develop subject matter expertise.
Accuracy under time pressure. It is critical that we consistently deliver accurate assessments to the market.
Excellent communicator, and comfortable with public speaking or willing to learn.
Proven real‑time newswriting capabilities.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Portuguese speaker valued.
Ability to use data to assign graphics with an eye toward infographics.
Interest in pitching and participating in podcasts, Reel Pros and webinars focused on methodology and market dynamics.
