Direct Support Professional

Salary:

$20.00/hour

What You'll Do

As a Direct Support Professional, you’ll work directly with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to teach, assist, and to facilitate choices in their residences and within their community. Provide support to our individuals in their homes where they enjoy the highest quality of life. During this morning shift, you will also provide transport for the individuals from their homes in Pembroke to their Day Programs.

Responsibilities

Provide assistance and supports to the needs of individuals including but not limited to: self-sufficiency in daily living needs; personal hygiene; housekeeping requirements; health and safety; personal funds management; behavioral needs and other personal living and enrichment requirements while encouraging a home like environment with decision-making assistance as required. Coordinate, document and ensure implementation of ISP’s in consultation with other residential staff. Monitor and follow up on psychological/behavioral needs, medical and dental needs, etc. Promote human rights. Prepare and submit documentation, notes, data and other written and/or verbal reports has required or instructed. Attend scheduled meetings and NEV wide residential staff meetings. Ensure proper nutrition; consider individual dietary needs and instruct in meal preparation and appropriate food choices. Provide instruction for personal hygiene and up keep of living quarters. Serve as a contact for families/guardians fostering a positive relationship through regular communication. Promote communication between residents and encourage friendships; utilize community resources and provide opportunities for community involvement. Communicate regularly with coworkers, supervisors, others as appropriate for such as issues/concerns, etc. Provide residents with instruction and assistance in managing personal funds. Maintain required certifications and trainings. May direct the activities of part time and relief staff as instructed. Perform other similar duties as responsibilities necessitate or as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age High School Diploma or equivalent Demonstrated ability to serve and care for people with disabilities and their families Valid MA drivers’ license, with positive driving record New England Village is a non-smoking facility Must be willing to become CPR, First Aid, QBS Safety Care and MAP certified Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Skills and Abilities Required:

Performs resident assistance and support duties requiring the use of a range of procedures and the use of judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems and situations and in the method to be use to adequately complete the procedures. Inside and outside contacts involving discussions where tack is required to avoid friction and obtain cooperation. Work with confidential data such as individual case records which if disclosed inadvertently could have significant internal effect or minor external effect.
