Summary of Duties
Perform eligibility determinations, redeterminations, and periodic reviews.
Conduct interviews with applicants applying for benefits.
Communicate eligibility decisions to applicants.
Provide person‑centered services with a trauma‑informed approach to identify needs.
Ensure accurate and timely eligibility determinations across the state.
Create an inclusive work environment where everyone feels welcomed, appreciated, and valued.
Participate in professional development opportunities and ongoing education of cultural awareness.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
One year of experience working at the Human Services Specialist I level for the State of Oregon, or
Two years of public‑facing experience, providing assistance and interpreting policies, rules, or guidelines, or
An associate degree in Behavioral Science, Social Science or closely related field AND six months of public‑facing experience, or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Essential Attributes
Detail‑oriented, especially with data entry and document review.
Adapt communication style to explain complex information verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
Strong time‑management, organization and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
Provide person‑centered, trauma‑informed customer service.
Basic technical proficiency with computer skills, email, and web‑based platforms.
Build meaningful relationships that foster trust, inclusivity and respect.
Working Conditions
Work occurs in offices, participants’ homes, and community sites.
May require travel to support other branch offices or conduct community appointments.
Standard schedule Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm PT, with possible fluctuations.
Possible optional compensated overtime, including evenings and weekends.
Potential exposure to individuals experiencing trauma or emotional distress, requiring quick decision‑making for safety.
Background Checks & Requirements
Criminal history and background check required for finalists; adverse history may lead to disqualification.
No visa sponsorship offered. I‑9 form and E‑Verify required within three days of hire.
