Job Description Performs moderately complex repair or construction of university facilities or property which require specialized training in a skilled trade (mason/tilesetting). Performs skilled masonry duties in the construction, alteration, repair, installation and maintenance of masonry structures. Position’s primary purpose is to ensure that masonry structures, restrooms/shower areas, and patios are in safe, clean and good condition and that repairs are completed promptly and properly. Hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Essential Duties

Reviews job orders and blueprints or drawings; inspects site and consults with client; determines best method to complete project

Estimates amount of materials and equipment needed to complete project; arranges for materials to be at job site

Performs complex repair or installation on University facilities and property using expertise acquired through specialized training in the masonry trade

Assists outside contractors as needed; assists crafts‑persons from other trades as needed

Maintains and cleans tools and equipment; maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner

Performs trade tasks, including constructing forms, tile, concrete, brick/block, and other building rough carpentry work, and responds to emergency situations as assigned

May prepare some paperwork; may maintain files

Minimum Qualifications

Requires nine months training beyond high school in a skilled trade (masonry) and two years of experience in that trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Driver’s license required

Additional Position Information

At least 5 years documented experience in masonry work or journeyman status in the trade.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the procedures and equipment of a particular skilled trade

Mechanical aptitude

Ability to read and understand blueprints and/or mechanical diagrams

Working Conditions Frequent standing and walking with some climbing and lifting of materials weighing 50 to 75 pounds. Frequent operation of equipment. Somewhat unpleasant working conditions. Some exposure to several unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable. Some element of personal risk and exposure to accidents.
