Overview The Distribution Designer II will perform field data collection and detailed design of overhead and underground electric distribution systems. The role includes gathering field data for designs, entering information into various programs, and preparing field notes, drawings, specifications, and estimates. The Designer may provide direction, training, supervision, and guidance to other design staff as directed by the supervisor.
Responsibilities
Design and prepare construction orders related to overhead and underground facilities for electric distribution systems applying prescribed standards and procedures.
Gather equipment information in the field using tools such as IKE Office, Katapult, and a Hastings Stick.
Prepare field notes and designs using tools such as SPIDAcalc and other client tools.
Transfer field notes to a structural design team and contribute to cost estimates, specifications, evaluations, and requisitions.
Create computer‑assisted design and construction drawings with high accuracy and minimal errors.
Perform design services requiring a full understanding of drawings, specifications, industry, and company standards.
Prepare engineering calculations (pole loading, guying, transformer sizing, conductor loading/sagging, load studies, voltage studies).
Coordinate design development to meet project schedules.
Provide training and technical support for other distribution design classifications.
Achieve weekly billable goals as defined by the project guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Three years of progressive experience as a Distribution Designer or equivalent.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Thorough knowledge of electrical distribution design practices and procedures.
Working knowledge of:
Distribution Engineering
GIS
CADD
Proficiency with computers and software applications (MS Office, etc.)
Additional client‑specific requirements may apply.
