
Director of Training & Fitness Programming

Position Summary
The Director of Training & Fitness Programming leads the development and execution of all fitness, wellness, and training initiatives within the organization. This role emphasizes program innovation, staff development, and member engagement while supporting marketing and sales efforts. The ideal candidate combines expertise in fitness programming with leadership and marketing skills to enhance the member experience and strengthen the organization’s brand. This position reports to the General Manager.
Primary Responsibilities Program Development & Implementation
Design, implement, and oversee fitness and wellness programs for all member demographics ensuring quality, safety, and consistency.
Ensure programming aligns with organizational goals, member needs, and industry trends.
Evaluate and implement new training methodologies, equipment, and programming to meet evolving member needs and industry trends.
Monitor and adjust programs based on participation, feedback, and performance metrics.
Develop specialty programs, seasonal challenges, and fitness events to drive member engagement and retention.
Perform quarterly audits of group fitness classes and training programming to ensure quality of service delivery and adherence to operational standards.
Staff Leadership & Training
Recruit, mentor, and develop fitness staff including personal trainers, group fitness instructors, and fitness attendants to ensure consistent quality of service delivery and the member experience.
Facilitate team meetings and ensure staff alignment with organizational standards.
Foster a collaborative and positive team culture, promoting engagement, retention, and professional excellence.
Provide regular feedback to fitness team members to ensure continued personal and professional growth as well as adherence to club standards.
Member Engagement & Experience
Meet with members as needed to ensure all fitness and programming needs are being met.
Create and implement innovative programs and events to drive member participation and club revenue in alignment with organizational goals.
Collect and analyze member feedback to guide program improvements, ensure excellent service delivery, and improve the member experience.
Serve as a resource for members seeking guidance in wellness, fitness, and personal training.
Collaborate with the Member Experience Director to educate front desk and hospitality staff on fitness programs, terminology, and member engagement strategies.
Lead workshops, orientations, and special events to showcase programs and encourage member participation.
Operational & Strategic Responsibilities
Manage fitness schedules, ensuring optimal coverage for personal training, group fitness classes, and special events.
Oversee fitness staff certifications, compliance, and continuing education tracking.
Monitor program participation, track performance metrics, and adjust offerings to meet member needs and financial targets.
Collaborate with leadership team to develop strategic initiatives that align fitness offerings with overall club goals.
Assist in payroll processing for all fitness team members.
Substitute for instructors and trainers to perform services as needed.
Marketing & Sales Support
Perform new member consultations to provide a clear path for involvement in Village Fitness and how to access services and amenities.
Collaborate with marketing team to create content, promote programs, and communicate internally and externally, including social media support.
Aid in branding initiatives to highlight organizational strengths and programming efforts.
Aid the Member Experience team in membership sales – leading the sale of training packages and fostering the growth of training-level memberships.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field preferred; advanced certifications (e.g., NASM, ACSM, ACE) highly desirable.
Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in fitness management, personal training, or group fitness operations. Experience in a private club environment is a bonus.
Proven ability to develop, manage, and grow a high‑performing fitness team.
Strong knowledge of personal training, group fitness modalities, and wellness trends.
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to inspire, motivate, and educate both staff and members.
Proficiency in fitness management software and scheduling tools.
Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements
Ability to demonstrate exercises and fitness techniques for members and staff.
Capacity to stand, move, and lift up to 50 lbs for portions of the workday.
High energy and stamina to oversee classes, events, and daily fitness operations.
Ability to teach group fitness classes and/or training services as needed.
