Job Description The Hockomock Area YMCA is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Aquatics Director to lead and manage our aquatics programs and facilities at the Hurley Family Branch in North Attleboro, MA. This position is responsible for the planning, development, fiscal management, and administration of the YMCA swim programs. The role oversees both indoor and outdoor pools, ensuring safety standards are met, and staff are fully trained. The Aquatics Director’s full‑time schedule will be either Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3‑5 years of aquatics management experience, preferably in a YMCA environment
Bachelor’s degree (BA) from a four‑year college or university
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Current knowledge of YMCA or comparable safety and program standards
Experience in staff supervision, training, and evaluation
Commitment to community engagement and program innovation
Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with staff, participants, families, members, and stakeholders
Prior experience as a Lifeguard and/or Swim Instructor
Ability to problem‑solve in situations with limited standardization
Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Maintain current certifications in:
YMCA Lifeguard Certification
YMCA Swim Instructor Certification
YMCA Swim Trainer Certification
First Aid and CPR Certification
Knowledge of pool operations, including filtration systems, water chemistry, and safety protocols (CPO or AFO certification preferred)
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
Essential Functions
Ensures YMCA national quality standards are met or exceeded in all program areas
Supervises and manages Lifeguards and Swim Instructors, hiring, training, evaluating, and supporting Aquatics Staff, ensuring consistent performance
Oversees pool operations, including staff scheduling and aquatic emergency drills
Observes swim lessons to maintain program quality
Instructs swim lessons or lifeguards as needed
Communicates professionally with members, participants, families, and staff regarding program concerns, changes, or feedback
Develops new programs to meet the evolving needs of the community
Conducts regular equipment inspections and coordinates necessary repairs with maintenance
Plans and manages the annual budget and monitors monthly financial reports
Stays current with YMCA safety policies and procedures and ensures staff compliance
Attends Association and Branch meetings and trainings
