Job Description About Mainspring Recovery
Mainspring Recovery is a behavioral health organization committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality substance use disorder treatment across multiple levels of care. With locations in Dumfries and Lynchburg, Virginia, Mainspring supports individuals on their path to lasting recovery through evidence-based programming, a dedicated clinical team, and a strong culture of accountability and integrity.
The Opportunity
Mainspring Recovery is seeking a Compliance Specialist to join their Dumfries team and take ownership of day-to-day compliance program management across four levels of ASAM care (3.5, 3.1, 2.5, and 2.1). This is a role for someone who brings structure and consistency to a fast-moving, highly regulated environment - someone who follows through, communicates proactively, and takes genuine pride in doing the work right.
Reporting to the Director of Compliance, the Compliance Specialist serves as the operational backbone of Mainspring's compliance function at the Dumfries facility. You will manage time-sensitive reporting, lead investigations, coordinate safety programming, support licensing and accreditation efforts, and serve as a key partner to clinical and operations leadership. The technical elements of this role can be developed over time - what Mainspring needs most is someone dependable, accountable, and consistent from day one.
What You'll Do
Monitor, evaluate, and report serious incidents to the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) within required timeframes, including 24-hour reporting requirements.
Maintain accurate and complete incident report data, and conduct investigations into incidents including allegations of abuse and/or neglect.
Develop corrective actions and prevention strategies; complete root cause analyses within required 30-day timeframes with thorough and defensible documentation.
Coordinate and organize Quality Council meetings and supporting materials.
Support implementation of Mainspring's safety program, including translating safety policies into action, conducting daily, weekly, and annual facility inspections, and collaborating with operations on monthly safety drills.
Participate in Mainspring's Safety Committee.
Conduct safety and compliance training for staff.
Process medical records requests from external facilities to support continuity of care.
Collaborate with HR to ensure compliance with OSHA and personnel training requirements.
Participate in All Staff meetings and partner with stakeholders to develop and deliver training as needed.
Assist with licensing and accreditation preparedness.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of compliance and operational needs.
Requirements What You Bring
Required
Bachelor's or associate degree from an accredited college.
Strong record of professionalism, reliability, and accountability - this is the most important qualification for this role.
Ability to independently manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail and a commitment to accurate documentation.
Preferred
Experience working in a regulated healthcare or behavioral health setting, such as substance use disorder treatment, mental health, or residential care.
Familiarity with DBHDS regulations, ASAM levels of care, and/or accreditation standards such as CARF International or The Joint Commission.
Experience with incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis in a clinical or residential setting.
Experience delivering training or supporting staff education on compliance, safety, or regulatory topics.
$75,000 to $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
Pre-Employment Requirements Mainspring conducts, as required, job-related background checks, drug testing, TB testing, verification of employment history, and/or reference checks prior to employment.
Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Mainspring is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other protected status in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
