EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR / FACULTY & STAFF EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
Position Summary
The College of Medicine’s executive director for faculty and staff employment services is a highly visible executive/leadership role responsible for coordinating and facilitating faculty affairs and human resource activities for CMED in collaboration with CMU’s Human Resources and Faculty Personnel Services offices. The role provides leadership and guidance regarding faculty and staff human resource matters and faculty affairs within CMED to ensure adherence with accrediting and licensing bodies, federal and state law, and CMU policies and practices. The executive director interprets rules and regulations, exercises direct supervision of a team of professional and administrative personnel in CMED’s Faculty and Staff Services Office, and oversees policies, processes, and procedures related to academic appointment, reappointment, promotion, and tenure of medical faculty and other associated personnel.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, management, or a field directly relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Eight years of professional‑level faculty or staff services experience.
Prior supervisory and management‑level experience.
Demonstrated ability to deliver a broad array of employment‑type services in a complex organization such as a college of medicine, university, or health care system.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of a large, complex organization and to be a strong advocate and leader in process improvement related to faculty and staff service delivery.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated team‑oriented leadership style.
Ability to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or a recognized human resources professional certification (e.g., SPHR, PHR, SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP).
Experience in higher education, governmental, or other non‑profit setting.
Experience in a health affairs setting.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provides direct supervision and management of the College of Medicine Faculty and Staff Services office, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management of staff.
Acts as subject matter expert and consultant to CMED managers and executive leadership on faculty appointment, reappointment, promotion, and tenure of medical faculty and community educators and external partner faculty.
Oversees and improves CMED’s faculty and staff onboarding, orientation, and appointment/reappointment processes.
Provides consultation and best‑practice recommendations to the advancement committee, dean, and other stakeholders on matters related to appointment, reappointment, promotion, tenure, post‑tenure review, and faculty evaluations.
Updates CMED’s faculty handbook and manual to reflect new and revised processes and procedures.
Maintains a database and personnel files of all faculty appointed within CMED.
Addresses employee relations issues in partnership with CMU’s Human Resources, Faculty Personnel Services, and Office of Civil Rights and Institutional Equity.
Oversees HIPAA workforce training and compliance in collaboration with the CMU HIPAA Privacy Officer.
Develops and maintains the Department of Faculty and Staff Services budget.
Promotes a welcoming and considerate community; oversees staff professional development and employee recognition programs.
Performs other professional duties as assigned.
Employee Group : Professional & Administrative – Salary
Pay Range : $95,000 – $115,000 per year

Weekly Work Schedule : Mon‑Fri, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; weekends and evenings as needed
