YMCA Silver Spring Assistant Camp Director
Location: 9800 Hastings Dr, Silver Spring, MD 20901, USA
Job Description Working at the Y, you will create exciting and impactful experiences for campers, build connections with your peers and Y professionals, expand your leadership skills, and have fun! This is a seasonal position for the months of June through August.
Responsibilities
Ensure all campers have a fun, enriching, and safe experience
Assist with planning and implementing the Y camp program according to Y goals, policies, and camp curriculum
Assist in providing leadership to camp counselors, including training and daily supervision
Ensure daily schedule of activities is carried out for all groups of campers
Assist in conducting weekly team meetings and provide performance feedback on a daily basis
Ensure that all counselors have a daily schedule and the appropriate supplies and resources to deliver a quality program
Be responsible for camper safety and security
Ensure adherence to the policies of the Y
Motivate, energize and encourage counselors to deliver outstanding programming and customer service daily
Participate in staff trainings and meetings as required
Qualifications
Be able to work from the week before camp begins for training to the end of the final week of the season
High school graduate
21 years of age
Willing to participate in and obtain CPR and First Aid Certification
Clear local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting
Meet the county/state licensing requirements
At least two summers of experience in day camp, recreation, physical education, teaching, or working with school-age children
Prior experience assisting supervising staff
Work well with and in groups
Able to effectively communicate with children and parents
Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
Must be physically active to play games and sports with the childrenMust be able to pick‑up at least 35 pounds
Must have visual acuity to observe all children
