Salary USD $21.50 / Hour.

Job Overview The Produce Manager is responsible for the successful operation and profitability of the produce department, including training, directing, and monitoring all department staff. Department managers must also fulfill the duties of Manager on Duty (MOD) on a scheduled basis and work 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with mandatory store meetings.

Responsibilities

Providing world‑class customer service as the top priority.

Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence while adhering to all policies.

Creating an inviting, fully stocked, and shopable department.

Ordering for the produce department and maintaining accurate inventory levels.

Managing margin, COGS, and overall department profitability, including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.

Setting and maintaining the department daily, ensuring produce racks are consistently fresh and full.

Culling, crisping, rotating, and properly handling/storing produce.

Ensuring only certified organic produce is ordered and received.

Ensuring all in‑stock products and conditions meet company standards.

Cleaning all tools and equipment in accordance with health department and company standards.

Receiving all incoming produce orders per company standards.

Offering and following up on special orders.

Training and monitoring department personnel.

Collaborating with other department managers to cross‑train staff for needed tasks.

Conducting active and passive demos.

Merchandising shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.

Assisting in interviewing and hiring for department needs.

Working with the store manager to address performance and disciplinary issues within the department.

Handling register functions, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing complaints, and covering register shift changes.

Maintaining safety and security for customers and employees.

Occasionally managing disruptions such as loiterers, solicitation, emergency weather, and bathroom misuse.

Answering customer questions per company standards and policies, including Structure/Function statements and nutritional support statements.

Continuously increasing product knowledge.

Utilizing email and IS programs as needed.

Opening and closing the store.

Completing the DSR and closing cash processes if no other qualified employee is available.

Working a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays while attending mandatory store meetings.

Qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (preferred).

Ability to obtain forklift certification.

1–2 years of experience in a grocery, retail, or produce environment (natural foods background is a plus).

1–2 years of supervisory experience (preferred).

Ability to pass food safety training courses and certifications as required by law and maintain compliance.

Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.

Sense of urgency in task completion.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to take direction and follow through.

Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements

Constant lift or carry up to 10 lbs., frequent lift or carry 11–20 lbs., occasional lift or carry 21–50 lbs., and occasionally lift or carry 51–100 lbs. with a team lift.

Frequent push or pull up to 15 lbs., occasional push or pull 16–100 lbs.

Occasional computer use for data entry and mouse usage.

Constant walking, standing, fine‑motor manipulation, gripping, bending, twisting, turning, and reaching throughout the shift.

Frequent reach above chest.

Occasional sitting, squatting, kneeling, and climbing as needed.

Environmental Requirements

Frequent work with sharp tools, dust, fumes, and congested worksite.

Occasional work with noise, cold, heat, wet, humid, outside, heights, and contact stress.
