Survey Crew Member II – Austin, TX Halff is currently seeking a Survey Crew Member to join our Austin, TX office. This intermediate-level role involves working outdoors in support of a Land Survey crew. Prior survey experience is a plus, but not required. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with a 6:30 a.m. start time. This position includes overtime and travel assignments of up to two weeks at a time. What you will do

Operate robotic, conventional, and GPS survey equipment to collect accurate topographic features and boundary evidence for land development, route, utility, and other surveying projects.

Assist the Party Chief on land development, boundary, design, topographic, and ALTA surveys.

Collect high-quality field data with a strong focus on accuracy, precision, and completeness.

Follow written and verbal instructions from the Party Chief and project leadership.

Safely transport, set up, and maintain tripods, rods, prisms, and other survey equipment.

Load, unload, and properly store survey tools, equipment, and vehicles.

Clear lines, mark points, drive stakes, and perform stakeout activities as directed.

Perform field measurements, data logging, and survey tasks with minimal supervision.

Download, upload, and review survey data to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to submission.

Maintain organized field equipment, tools, and supplies.

Adhere to Halff's safety standards and field safety procedures at all times.

Perform physically demanding fieldwork, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.

Travel to project sites, including occasional extended travel assignments.

Complete assigned tasks efficiently and accurately to support project schedules and deadlines.

What you will need

2+ years of experience as a Survey Instrument Operator (land development, boundary, design, topographic, and ALTA surveys).

High School Diploma or GED.

Able and willing to work Monday through Friday, with a 6:30 a.m. start time, out of our Austin, TX office location.

Valid driver's license with the ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment.

Ability to work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods.

Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.

Ability to follow verbal, written, and other forms of instruction.

Solid mathematical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills applicable to field surveying.

Dependable, disciplined, and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.

Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends to meet project deadlines.

Ability to travel up to 50% as needed.

Working knowledge of survey field procedures, measurement principles, and data collection methods.

Experience operating robotic total stations, GPS, and related field equipment.

Familiarity with topographic, boundary, and construction staking methods.

Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt in a fast‑paced environment.

Manual dexterity to operate instruments, hand tools, stakes, and field documentation.

Ability to pass a drug and background screening.

Ability to work cooperatively in a team‑oriented environment.
