
Technical Writer & CAD Illustration Specialist

To support the client in updating and developing comprehensive technical manuals across its product line. The writer will produce clear, accurate documentation for complex fuel testing equipment and machinery while also creating detailed technical illustrations derived from CAD models. The goal is to modernize outdated manuals and support new product documentation.
Overview The client is seeking an experienced Technical Writer with strong technical illustration capabilities to create and update a wide range of manuals for complex manufacturing equipment. This role requires a professional who can independently manage documentation projects from start to finish—working with existing manuals, CAD models, and subject matter experts to produce clear, high-quality technical documentation and illustrations.
The ideal candidate will have experience documenting machinery in a manufacturing or engineering environment, as well as strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and CAD software.
Scope -Location: Hybrid preferred — ability to work on‑site in Pewaukee, WI (near Milwaukee/Chicago) 2–3 days per week, with flexibility for remote work
Responsibilities
Create and update a variety of technical documentation, including: Operations Manuals, Service and Maintenance Manuals, Parts Manuals, User Manuals, Initial Setup Guides
Research, write, and illustrate technical manuals following internal style guidelines
Convert CAD models into technical illustrations by exporting exploded views and part details into illustration formats
Finalize illustrations using Adobe Illustrator
Work from existing manuals to update and modernize documentation
Collaborate with internal subject matter experts
Capture product imagery and documentation materials by taking photos and videos of equipment setup, operation, and service processes
Utilize provided templates to produce consistent documentation
Manage documentation projects independently with minimal supervision
Skills and Qualifications
Extensive experience in technical writing and manual development
Demonstrated experience creating operations, maintenance, parts, service, and installation manuals
Strong understanding of manufacturing or machinery environments
Ability to translate complex engineering processes into clear user documentation
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and InDesign
CAD proficiency required (non‑negotiable), preferably SolidWorks Composer
Ability to generate technical illustrations and EPS outputs from CAD models
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with subject matter expertsSelf‑starter capable of owning projects from start to finish
Detail‑oriented with excellent organizational skills
