We believe that local stories matter. We are looking for a high-energy reporter to create clean, engaging SEO-friendly copy and video content to tell the story of the Adirondacks to a growing audience. We are surrounded by 6 million acres of protected wilderness. You can paddle a chain of lakes on your lunch break or hike a “6er” peak before your shift starts. The “cure” for boring offices: While our office is in Saranac Lake, we’re willing to consider candidates who are located/willing to relocate to anywhere within the Adirondack Park boundary. Depending on the candidate’s location, this job could be hybrid. This position pays $51,000 a year, with generous paid time off and holidays, a stipend for health insurance and a 403(b) employee retirement plan. Visual storytelling: Capture and edit short-form video content (Reels/YouTube) to bring Adirondack stories to life. Social content: Create content for social media to build community, find sources, and drive traffic to your stories. The ideal candidate Versatile writer: You don’t mind writing about a variety of topics Newsroom experience: You have spent time working in news – in a newsroom or on your college newspaper – with some good clips to share. Multimedia pro: You’re comfortable shooting on a smartphone and know how to edit social-first video (CapCut, Premiere, etc.). An Explorer: You’re eager to get your boots muddy. You understand that the best stories in the Adirondack Park are often found at the end of a trail or the edge of a dock. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field. 1–3 years of experience (internships count). A portfolio showing both “quick-hit” digital news and narrative-driven features. A valid driver’s license and vehicle (reliable transportation is a must in the mountains).
