Position Summary The General Sales Manager (GSM) is a senior leadership role responsible for driving sales performance and operational excellence within the dealership’s variable operations. This role leads sales managers, sales consultants, and BDC staff while executing the overall sales strategy to achieve revenue, market share, and customer satisfaction goals.
The GSM plays a critical role in inventory management, sales process execution, staff development, customer experience, and manufacturer relations across the Lou Fusz Automotive Network.
Key Responsibilities Sales Leadership & Performance
Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Sales Managers, Sales Consultants, and BDC staff
Establish, manage, and track performance metrics and departmentKPIs
Drive market share, profitability, owner loyalty, and service retention
Execute pricing, forecasting, and inventory strategies to maximize ROI
Maintain strong manufacturer relationships and ensure compliance with standards
Inventory & Process Management
Manage used vehicle inventory using tools such as V-Auto, appraisal systems, recon velocity, and off-street purchasing
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of vehicle sales into manufacturer portals
Oversee CRM workflows and customer touchpoints using Drive Centric and Dealertrack DMS
Customer Experience & CSI
Champion a customer-first culture across the sales department
Monitor and improve CSI scores and resolve customer issues efficiently
Ensure all customer interactions are handled professionally and ethically
Training & Development
Recruit, train, and retain top sales talent
Conduct ongoing coaching and performance reviews
Ensure completion of all manufacturer-required training
Stay current on industry trends, technology, and best practices
Compliance & Administration
Maintain a safe, clean work environment in compliance with OSHA and state regulations
Enforce company policies, pay plans, and operational standards
Ensure accurate timekeeping, reporting, and documentation
Participate in required meetings and initiatives
Qualifications Experience & Skills
5 Years automotive dealership sales leadership experience preferred
Strong track record of driving sales performance and team accountability
Customer-focused mindset with a passion for service excellence
Ability to analyze performance data and make informed business decisions
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with dealership technology, CRM tools, and inventory systems
