Reporting to the News Director, the News Producer develops, produces, and delivers top local and national news stories weekdays on 104.5 FM. The producer shift is dependent upon the news and event cycle, but will be an 8-hour period that will include one weekend day. Typical shifts are 11 pm – 7 am, 3am to 11am, 12noon to 8pm, 7am to 3pm Tu-Sa, etc. The producer is responsible for writing factual, compelling, quality news stories with urgency and relatability for radio, as well as digital and social channels. They produce local and national news content that contributes to our success daily. And they develop trusted sources that are regularly used for research and story development. The producer reacts and delivers breaking news and severe weather alerts on the radio, and on digital and social platforms. The producer reports breaking news, top local, and top national stories. The producer also prepares to anchor newscasts as needed. Other duties as assigned by the News Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Produce, write, and edit accurate, compelling local and national news content for radio broadcasts, digital platforms, and social media channels
Monitor breaking news, severe weather, and developing stories; react quickly and responsibly to deliver timely updates across all platforms
Research, verify, and develop story ideas using reliable sources, sound news judgment, and editorial standards
Conduct interviews in studio, in the field, on location, and via telephone, ensuring professionalism and journalistic integrity
Serve as a reporter when assigned, delivering clear and engaging on‑air presentations
Maintain and cultivate trusted sources to support ongoing reporting and story development
Ensure all content complies with company policies, legal standards, and digital and social media guidelines
Collaborate effectively with reporters, anchors, and newsroom leadership to support daily coverage and special projects
Manage multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
Continuously evaluate workflows and content quality, identifying opportunities for process improvement
Perform other duties as assigned by the News Director
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated experience producing, writing, and reporting news content for radio, digital, and social platforms
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver accurate, timely information under deadline pressure
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, breaking‑news environment
Sound editorial judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field
Experience conducting interviews in studio, in the field, and via telephone
Familiarity with digital publishing tools, social media platforms, and newsroom content systems
