Middle School: Head Band Director 2026‑ A)
Plan and implement an instructional program for the campus beginner, intermediate, and advanced concert bands. Coordinate, supervise, and manage all aspects of the campus band program. Fulfill professional responsibilities related to teaching middle school band courses and managing the instructional program. Prolonged or irregular work hours are required. Any teacher who will coach a UIL sport will also provide athletic services related to that athletic sport and the athletic program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain progress with group and individual instruction, rehearsals, and performances for Level 1‑3 middle school concert bands
- Plan appropriate learning activities including determination of appropriate type and level of materials and implement an instructional program that provides an appropriate learning sequence, considering different learning styles and a range of abilities
- Assess student achievement as related to desired educational goals and outcomes and maintain appropriate assessment documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes
- Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
- Manage the behavior of learners in the instructional setting to ensure the environment is conducive to the learning process; assist and participate in management of student behavior in all parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site both during and outside of school hours; monitor and enforce compliance with the Fort Bend ISD Student/Parent Handbook and Student Code of Conduct
- Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are accessible to students and in good condition
Program Management
- Assign, supervise, and coordinate job responsibilities of instructional assistants within the program
- Implement sectional, small group, and large ensemble instruction in the fall and spring semester to provide adequate preparation for all concerts, competitions, auditions, and events
- Develop, implement, and monitor a public relations program that will keep the public aware of the accomplishments and events involving students in the instructional program
- Develop, implement, and monitor a recruitment, audition, and placement program/schedule for all potential students
- Comply with established FBISD policies and procedures regarding fundraising, budget management, inventory and materials management, student travel, employee travel, private lessons, and the submission of entry forms and fees by prescribed deadlines
- Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration or the Director of Fine Arts
Professional Responsibilities
- Ensure standards of professional conduct are maintained (Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators)
- Understand and uphold all rules, regulations, and dates that pertain to the instrumental music program (UIL, TMEA, and FBISD policies all apply)
- Participate in all UIL, TMEA and FBISD sponsored events; encourage student participation in all competitions/events related to the instructional program
- Provide proper student supervision during and after all program activities until all students have left the area
- Participate in in‑service, professional learning activities, and staff meetings as required or assigned, including meetings with the Director of Fine Arts
- Support and assist feeder programs by attending concerts/shows and offering reasonable assistance to these programs
Coaching Duties (if applicable)
- Perform coaching duties as assigned as well as other duties required for the smooth, efficient operation of a successful athletic program
- Possess knowledge and adhere to UIL rules and regulations
- Assist the Athletic Department with budget, schedules, care/use of facilities
- Communicate with the Athletic Department on a regular basis

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or Music Performance
- Master's degree preferred
- Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment EC‑12 Music
- Valid Driver's license with CDL Certification preferred if coaching a UIL sport
- Minimum of 5 years Full‑time teaching experience
- Coaching experience preferred if coaching a UIL sport
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to use social media effectively
- Demonstrated proficiency on a wind or percussion instrument
- Ability to interact appropriately with the public, District staff, and parents
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues on the campus and in the instructional feeder pattern
- Ability to market the instructional program
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
Work is performed in classrooms, offices, workstations, and meeting rooms. Requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying works related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers, and presentation materials. Regular use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts that require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
