ROLE OVERVIEW
The Contract Graphic Designer is the marketing department’s dedicated creative production resource. Engaged on a monthly retainer basis, this role is responsible for producing professional design assets across email, social media, print, and digital advertising channels on a consistent monthly cadence tied directly to the department’s campaign calendar.
This is not a project-by-project engagement or a ticket queue. It is an ongoing creative partnership with a focused, collaborative marketing team. The designer receives creative direction from the VP of Marketing, produces assets to brand standards, and hands off approved work to the Digital Campaign Coordinator for deployment. The Campaign & Operations Coordinator is the primary contact for production timing and file specifications.
This role is an intentional first step toward a full-time in-house designer position. A contractor who performs well, aligns with the team’s culture, and delivers consistently will be the strongest candidate for that role when it is established.
SCOPE OF WORK
The designer produces assets across four primary categories on a rolling monthly basis. Specific deliverables within each category are confirmed at the monthly planning meeting.
Email Campaign Graphics
Design graphics, banners, and visual layouts for all scheduled marketing email campaigns
Develop and maintain reusable email templates that align with brand standards and render correctly across devices and email clients
Produce updated visual elements for recurring email campaigns including promotional, seasonal, and transactional sends
Deliver all email assets in formats and dimensions specified by the Digital Campaign Coordinator for direct use in Listrak
Social Media Graphics
Design graphics for feed posts, stories, and paid advertisements across Meta and other active social platforms
Produce assets in all required sizes and formats for each platform following current specifications
Support paid campaign creative including ad graphics and carousel assets as directed by the VP
Adapt existing campaign visuals for social use to maintain consistency across channels
Print Materials
Design print-ready artwork for direct mail campaigns including flyers, brochures, postcards, and promotional pieces
Prepare and submit press-ready files in formats required by the department’s print production partners
Coordinate with the Campaign & Operations Coordinator on file specifications, deadlines, and submission requirements
Ensure all print assets meet USPS and mailer technical requirements when applicable
Web Graphics & Digital Ads
Design banner ads, homepage graphics, and web display assets as directed by the VP
Produce digital ad creative in all required sizes and formats for web placement
Adapt campaign visuals for web use while maintaining brand consistency across all digital touchpoints
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Strong portfolio demonstrating professional work across digital and print — email graphics, social assets, print materials, and digital ads
Proven experience designing for email marketing, social media, and print production environments
Adobe Creative Suite proficiency — Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
Ability to deliver production-ready files in correct formats for each channel and platform
Strong attention to brand consistency — able to work within established visual standards and style guides
Reliable communicator — responsive within one business day and proactive about timeline concerns
Self‑directed and deadline‑driven — able to manage a monthly deliverable scope with minimal oversight
Able to attend occasional in‑person meetings in Jackson, MS
Preferred
Experience in e-commerce, catalog, or direct mail design environments
Background in or familiarity with forestry, outdoor, or B2B industrial industries
Experience with email platforms such as Listrak, Klaviyo, or similar tools
Familiarity with Meta Business Suite ad creative specifications and requirements
Located in or near Jackson, MS
WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT
This role produces assets — it does not set creative strategy or make final decisions on direction. Creative strategy and direction come from the VP of Marketing. The designer executes with excellence within that direction.
This is not an employee position. The designer engages as an independent contractor and is responsible for their own software, equipment, and professional tools. No employment benefits apply.
This is not a high‑volume ticket queue with unpredictable scope. Deliverables are defined monthly, tied to a real campaign calendar, and agreed upon in advance. Scope changes outside the baseline require advance discussion.
TOOLS & TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) strongly preferred; contractor must use industry‑standard tools capable of producing print‑ready and web‑optimized files
All assets must be delivered in formats compatible with Listrak (email), Meta Business Suite (social), and the department’s print production partners
Contractor is responsible for maintaining their own software licenses and equipment
Files must be organized, clearly named, and delivered via an agreed file‑sharing method confirmed at engagement start
Brand style guide and visual standards will be provided prior to engagement start; all work must adhere to established brand standards
