The Senior Graphic Designer's primary purpose is to lead and execute creative projects, ensuring visual consistency and brand alignment across various marketing materials. Responsible for developing and implementing design strategies, will collaborate with cross-functional teams, and create high-quality and engaging visuals. The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of design principles, excellent communication skills as well as the ability to meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
Duties
- Develop creative concepts for marketing materials, ensuring brand alignment and visual consistency.
- Create compelling visuals for print, digital, and social media platforms, including brochures, posters, web banners, and email templates.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage project timelines, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely delivery of design assets.
- Review and refine designs to maintain high-quality standards and adherence to brand guidelines.
- Work closely with internal clients to understand their requirements, provide design recommendations, and present creative solutions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry-standard design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Stay informed about design trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to ensure continuous improvement of design work.
- Regularly communicate with the Assistant Director of Creative Services to ensure alignment of design projects with department goals and objectives.
- Provide guidance and support to junior designers, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the design team and perform related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum three years of professional experience in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and other design tools and platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Interaction Design, or a related field.
- Five years of professional experience in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field, preferably in a marketing or communications setting, with a focus on brand development and design strategy.
- Experience working in a higher education environment or a similar large organization.
- Experience in specialized areas, such as UX/UI design, web design, motion graphics, or information design, showcasing a broader skill set and versatility.
- Experience in leading and managing design projects, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and mentoring junior designers.
- Experience in implementing communication strategies for print materials, digital publications, and web content and social media.
- Additional certifications or coursework in specialized areas, such as User Experience (UX) Design, User Interface (UI) Design, Web Design, or Motion Graphics.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge in design principles and visual communication techniques, including typography, color theory, layout, and composition, to create engaging and effective marketing materials.
- Advanced knowledge and expertise in design principles and techniques.
- Knowledge in industry-standard design software and tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), as well as emerging technologies and platforms relevant to graphic design, to efficiently create and edit design assets.
- Knowledge in marketing and branding strategies, understanding the importance of visual identity and consistency across various platforms and media, and effectively communicating messages that resonate with the target audience.
- Skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), which enable the efficient creation, editing, and management of design assets for various marketing materials and platforms.
- Skills in web design and development, including proficiency in HTML, CSS, and a basic understanding of JavaScript, to ensure seamless integration of designs into web environments and optimization for various devices.
- Skills in motion graphics and video editing, utilizing software such as Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, to create engaging and dynamic visual content for digital marketing campaigns and social media platforms.
- Ability to effectively communicate design ideas and concepts, both in oral and written formats, ensuring clear understanding and collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships, working collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and vendors, and fostering a positive and productive team environment.
- Ability to problem-solve and adapt to challenges, demonstrating creativity and critical thinking skills when faced with design constraints, tight deadlines, or evolving project requirements.
