Job Description Successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction and lessons in orchestra, as well as other creative music industries such as rock band, sound engineering, and music production.
Responsibilities Develop and implement programming associated with Instrumental Music to be delivered in a classroom setting for middle school students.
Support and implement the district curriculum, standards and benchmarks.
Assist Middle School staff with strategies to support and meet students' needs and achievement of academic goals.
Provide active communication and maintain positive relationships with parents and community members.
Assist in planning and delivery of social/emotional/behavioral school-wide programming.
Collaborate with the principal, school counselor, staff, parents and students on matters pertaining to Instrumental Music.
Maintain appropriate records and protect the confidentiality of data.
Meet the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria consistently.
Report to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Education required.
Preferred experience in classroom teaching in grades 6-12.
Language Skills: Effective reading, analysis, interpretation of technical documents, assessment data, professional journals and regulations; effective writing of reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents and staff; effective oral presentation skills; ability to assist students in language and literacy.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and fractions; assist students in implementing these concepts.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems effectively; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Required Dispositions: Believes all children can attain high learning levels; takes responsibility for students' learning; builds effective educational experiences; applies continuous improvement principles; functions as an effective team member; confronts today’s educational challenges; uses effective interpersonal skills; has track record of success; works with integrity.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Iowa Teaching Certification with an endorsement in the content area required.
Other Skills and Abilities: Apply knowledge of current research related to educational goals; establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff and the school community; speak clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical Demands The physical demands include standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle objects, speaking and hearing; frequently squatting, stooping, kneeling, reaching above the head and forward 0‑24 inches and sometimes 36 inches; continuous hand strength; bending or twisting at neck and trunk; lifting or moving up to 50 pounds within 0‑12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet; pushing/pulling tables and carts; specific vision abilities such as close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment while supervising students and working with computers, written materials and assessment data.
Work Environment The noise level is usually quiet. The position requires professional working hours that may extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee works in various areas of the classroom, at desks, near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities. The employee works in indoor temperatures and may work outdoors when supervising students outside.
