Job Summary: ABC7/WLS, the ABC Owned Television station in Chicago, IL has an opening for an energetic and dynamic general assignment reporter. The ideal candidate must be a dynamic and compelling journalist, communicator, and storyteller with a passion for uncovering and reporting the facts, and with integrity above all else. They will work collaboratively with producers, assignment editors and newsroom leaders, and report for all platforms and dayparts, including early mornings, nights, and weekends.
This full‑time staff position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement with SAG‑AFTRA, and is considered on‑site.
Responsibilities & Duties
On‑air performance
Researching, writing and reporting
Basic Qualifications
Exceptional reporting, writing and interviewing skills
Ability to source and generate impactful enterprise leads, and create impactful content utilizing investigative tools, including data journalism
Tenacious in uncovering stories through investigation and research
Expert in telling high‑impact stories and in breaking news coverage, demonstrated in the field
Report, write, capture visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as owned and distributed digital, streaming and social platforms
Active use of social media for promotion and news gathering
Demonstrated ability to move the audience between linear and digital platforms
Collaboration and self‑starter ethic
Ensures all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
Strong commitment to the community, expected to represent the station and participate in various community events
Must be open to working early mornings, nights and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of reporting experience in a large market
Knowledge and ability of shooting and editing a plus
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, preference in journalism or related field
Benefits
The pay rate for this role in Chicago, IL is $55.29 to $79.33 per hour. Select benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, such as medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
