Salary: $33-38 per hour

The Communications Manager is the public voice for our transformational approach to climate adaptation—an outgoing, bold storyteller who translates complex climate solutions into accessible, personal narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. This role oversees and manages communications for the organization, advancing the vision and goals of the Climate Science Alliance through developing and implementing communications strategies designed to share our stories and uplift the work of the Alliance and its partners.

The Communications Manager is a creative communicator with proven experience promoting ideas through diverse channels and building media relationships. They create engaging content across various platforms; connect with media, donors, and other audiences to increase our visibility and impact; and make climate adaptation feel urgent, hopeful, and actionable. They support the Director of Development and Communications and work closely with the entire team to communicate the impact of our work and ignite passion for our mission in the community.

The Communications Manager reports to the Director of Development and Communications and will advance the Climate Science Alliance’s goals through the following four primary focal areas:

Communications Management and Content Creation

Media Relations and Donor Engagement

Organizational Design and Branding

Responsibilities
Communications Management and Content Creation (40%)

Develop and implement a detailed, strategic, and bold communications plan to support organizational goals.

Write and produce content for various media and platforms, including (but not limited to) press releases, newsletters, magazines, annual reports, social media posts, and website content.

Develop, implement, and manage communications projects and programs and lead work across departments to coordinate education and outreach components as needed.

Oversee other program communications to ensure alignment with overall communications strategy and tone; support design and content creation as needed.

Stay up-to-date on daily activities and current projects across the organization to leverage opportunities to generate story ideas and amplify organizational goals and achievements.

Attend and provide primary communications support at events to facilitate content development and gather media (photos, video, interviews, etc.) to tell the stories of our work and the work of our partners.

Media Relations and Donor Engagement (30%)

Develop and lead the organization’s media and public relations strategy to increase visibility and impact.

Serve as the organization’s ambassador; build relationships with partners and community members and host donors and other stakeholders at meetings and events.

Build and maintain relationships with journalists and news outlets and serve as the main point of content for media.

Secure media placements to highlight and uplift the organization’s work or specific campaigns.

Monitor media coverage and other metrics to report on the success of communications efforts and make adjustments as needed.

Establish and maintain relationships with donors; support stewardship efforts of existing donors by creating follow-up content and campaigns.

Support the Director of Development and Communications with other fundraising and grant-seeking efforts.

Organizational Design and Branding (20%)

Ensure brand consistency across all materials and platforms and advise leadership on public messaging.

Advise on and support the development and maintenance of brand identity and visual elements for special projects and displays.

Identify needs and strategies for and support the development of signage, infographics, and collateral such as posters, postcards, flyers, brochures, etc.

Oversee the maintenance of the organization’s public-facing websites to ensure they are engaging and up-to-date; Coordinate and support updates to website layout and content changes and additions.

Oversee the organization’s internal digital platforms (e.g. Notion); maintain and adapt infrastructure, pages, and templates to support the organization’s project management.

Other (10%)

Provide technical and logistical support to external partners as assigned.

Contribute to programs and events by participating in planning and providing on-site event support as needed.
