About the MHDF and this role: The Michigan House Democratic Fund (MHDF) seeks a Deputy Press Secretary to support Democratic House candidates in Michigan. The Deputy Press Secretary will work closely with the Communications Director to support earned media, rapid response, candidate communications, and day‑to‑day press operations across multiple campaigns.
This is a full‑time, in‑person role based in Lansing, Michigan. Candidates must be willing to work from the Lansing office on a daily basis and relocate to the Lansing area if necessary. This is not a remote role.

Responsibilities include:
Draft press materials, including media advisories, press releases, statements, talking points, and op‑eds
Assist with preparing candidates for interviews, press conferences, and media events
Help maintain campaign media lists and support outreach to reporters and producers
Support proactive earned media and rapid response efforts across multiple campaigns
Assist in planning and executing press events, media availabilities, and other earned media opportunities
Support message development and other communications projects as needed
Qualifications and requirements:
1–2 years of communications experience, including campaign, political, government, or related experience preferred
Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through
Familiarity with the media landscape and a strong interest in earned media and political communications
Experience assisting with media prep, press events, or spokesperson support is a plus
Technical fluency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
Strongly preferred but not required:
Work experience in or deep familiarity with Michigan
Work experience in a state legislature, on a state legislative campaign, or in a political communications setting
Position details:
Full‑time, including nights and weekends as needed
Salary of $5,500 per month, plus benefits
Based in Lansing, Michigan, with some in‑state travel required
Access to a vehicle and a valid U.S. driver’s license required
Personal laptop required
