Job Description
MS NOW is looking for an audio engineer to join our podcast team. This role will work across the unit to support multiple projects and ensure high technical standards by mixing tape for audio and video platforms, as well as fine tuning our video podcasts.
The engineer’s role starts early in the production process: helping to set up the tech for remote and in-person interviews, troubleshoot connection and technical problems, and positioning talent and guests to ensure the highest possible recording. The engineers will also ingest audio and video files, plus prepare edit sessions for the team of producers. In the final stages of the process, it is the engineer’s responsibility to ensure podcasts are beautifully mastered and delivered to spec.
The engineer should be extremely detailed oriented, while also knowing how to work fast. It’s essential to have a mastery of advanced engineering techniques and be comfortable troubleshooting when something goes wrong. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable working on video podcasts, as the majority of MS NOW’s podcasts live on both traditional audio platforms as well as YouTube.
We are also looking for someone who understands and has an interest in news and politics, as well as journalism best practices. The engineer will report to the Senior Production Manager and collaborate daily with producers and other team members.
Primary Responsibilities Include
Run technical setup on remote recordings
Collaborate with TV crews on cross-platform shoots
Collaborate with event venues on live recordings
Ingest video and audio for podcast edits
Mix audio
Edit video podcast episodes
Troubleshoot problems with Descript, Pro Tools, Riverside, Premiere, and more
Master new technologies and workflows when needed
Make updated equipment suggestions to the Senior Production Manager
Work with the Senior Production Manager to make sure all producers & APs have necessary equipment and technical resources
QC publishing deliverables
Ensure spec compliance for audio and video podcast platforms
Develop and maintain in-house music library
Compile cue sheets
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years of audio production experience
Strong grasp of audio engineering fundamentals
High-level technical expertise in Pro Tools and Descript
Experience in Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro) and DaVinci Resolve
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects under deadline
Desired Qualifications
Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills
Self-motivated to continually grow their skillset
Fast learner
Able to take accountability
Enjoys solving problems, and does so pro-actively
Works well within a large organization
Comfortable working on shared projects
Additional Requirements
Must be willing to work varied and sometimes unpredictable shifts as news and production needs change.
Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000
