Audio Visual & Lighting Design Engineer
PureTek Group, Boonton, NJ, United States
At PureTek Group, we’re not just designing systems—we’re shaping the future of learning.
We’re a growing, forward-thinking company that’s been around long enough to know what we’re doing, but young enough to stay hungry, curious, and creative. We design and build seriously cool technology environments for schools and colleges—spaces that inspire students, empower educators, and push what’s possible in education.
Job Description We’re growing rapidly—and we’re looking for an engineer who wants to grow with us, take ownership of exciting projects, and build an incredible career along the way.
We’re seeking an Audio Visual & Lighting (AVL) Design Engineer with strong technical fundamentals, creative problem-solving skills, and a desire to keep learning. This role is ideal for someone who’s already solid in AV/lighting design and is ready to level up, work alongside experienced engineers, and help design systems that truly stand out.
You’ll be involved in the full design and estimating process—collaborating with a passionate team that values quality, innovation, and doing things the right way.
If you care about great design, love technology, and want your work to matter, this role is for you.
Responsibilities Conduct on-site system assessments and perform material take-offs from architectural and electrical drawings
Collaborate with engineering and integration teams to create innovative AVL system designs
Work alongside senior engineers and manufacturers to develop reliable, user-friendly solutions
Develop detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs), cost estimates, and proposal packages
Support bidding and procurement efforts with accuracy and attention to detail
Optimize system designs to improve performance and identify cost-saving opportunities
Build and maintain strong vendor and manufacturer relationships
Stay current on emerging AV, lighting, and immersive technologies
Respond to technical and sales-related inquiries in a timely, professional manner
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, AV technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience with networking preferred
CTS-I and/ or CTS-D certification (or willingness to pursue)
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or similar design tools
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and perform take-offs
Familiarity with estimating software, Microsoft Office, and project planning tools
