Division VP of Strategic Marketing Communications

Job Summary and Qualifications
The Division Vice President, Strategic Marketing Communications oversees strategic direction and coordination of integrated strategic marketing communications and community engagement initiatives, including marketing strategy execution, internal and external communication, media and public relations, community engagement, and crisis management. The VP actively leads the activation of Division branding, aligns communication strategies with enterprise goals, and ensures consistent messaging across the organization.
Key Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy Oversight

Leverages understanding of Division, Facility, and service line growth objectives to support annual marketing and corporate affairs planning. Works closely with the Group Marketing team to define marketing strategies in alignment with local growth objectives and with the Corporate Marketing team to identify operational readiness and best actions.

Collaborates with Division and Facility leadership to understand and intake business needs, and works with the Group team to activate marketing strategies in support of those needs.

Presents monthly reports on all Division marketing activities, understands which metrics are most important to executive leadership, and communicates results and recommendations in a compelling storytelling style.

Communication – Internal and External

Consults with key leaders to define and address communication needs and develops and implements programs to deliver key messages.

Provides internal and external messaging for division-wide channels, initiatives, and issues.

Identifies opportunities for the Division President to communicate with internal and external audiences and advises on communication strategies.

Oversees development of speeches, articles, personal correspondence and other materials on behalf of Division President and other key executives.

Is knowledgeable of labor union, state political and regulatory environments in support of the Labor and Government Relations teams.

Leads communications working groups in the development and execution of internal communications initiatives and programs on behalf of executive leadership.

Coordinates with division-level and facility-based communication and community engagement team members to ensure alignment and consistency of messages within and between facilities.

Collaborates with outside partner agencies/contractors on internal and external messaging.

Manages and implements external communication activities in media relations, public relations, community relations, and crisis management.

Media and Public Relations

Manages the work of the communications team, including AVP/Director, Media Relations, facility communication directors/managers, and outside PR firms, developing and aligning internal communication and implementing outreach to gain earned media and positive share of voice.

Monitors major issues and develops communication strategies, leads the team in generating press releases, provides consultation, content editing and approval, and develops crisis and issues management plans.

Evaluates and orchestrates speaking engagements and keynotes at community and press events.

Establishes a framework for measurement of PR, earned media, and owned communications efforts.

Crisis Management

Works with leadership and communication team to manage and implement approved crisis communications plan, including spokesperson identification, command center staffing, and media coordination.

Serves as Chief Communications Officer for media talking points and internal/external messaging.

Works with corporate media team on any media impacting HCA Healthcare enterprise.

Defining and Managing Brand Strategy

Clearly articulates and champions the HCA Enterprise brand strategy and its impact on stakeholders.

Works closely with the Enterprise Brand team to oversee and co‑champion activation of market brands within the Division.

Builds an accountability structure within the Division to ensure compliance with brand standards and monitors enforcement across Division and Facilities.

Ensures that resources and strategies align under the market brand and creates interim branding solutions for markets with separate brands, incorporating HCA Healthcare affiliation.

Community Engagement and Sponsorships

Partners with the Division AVP, Community Engagement to manage the Division’s community engagement plan and strategies, implementation of corporate philanthropic efforts, and participation in national partnerships.

Builds relationships with key opinion leaders and external organizations to promote the Division and its facilities.

Coordinates and manages corporate sponsorships in partnership with the Division community engagement lead, negotiating benefits and planning strategies.

Identifies opportunities to showcase the Division’s involvement in community relations and charitable activities through earned media.

Represents the Division at key community functions and events, serving in community civic roles.

Supports forging mutually beneficial relationships with individuals and organizations vital to the system’s growth.

Other Responsibilities

Serves as manager and leader of the Division and Facility M&CA team, coaching and developing colleagues.

Performs other duties assigned in alignment with Marketing and Corporate Affairs strategies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree – Required.

Master’s degree – Preferred.

10+ years of experience in a related position/field – Required.
