Overview

CBS19/KYTX in Tyler, Texas, a CBS affiliate, is looking for an experienced

Multi-Skilled Journalist/Producer

to help maintain our tradition of superior reporting and newsgathering. We are seeking a curious journalist who can create unique, memorable, and well written stories, and share them on all platforms with a mix of outstanding photography and editing. The role also involves stepping in to produce captivating newscasts and filling in as anchor when needed. If you are a creative storyteller who understands multi-platform journalism and is not bound by traditional TV news methods, we want to hear from you. Current driver’s license and ability to operate a news gathering vehicle to and from various locations are required.

Responsibilities

Develop and pitch story ideas daily.

Research and identify credible facts and sources to enhance reporting.

Maintain and grow a network of sources to inform stories and community coverage.

Write, shoot, produce, and edit content for broadcast and digital platforms within deadlines.

Use creative production techniques, including graphics, audience-submitted media, and innovative storytelling tools, to enhance stories.

Leverage social media and digital tools to research, discover, and distribute content.

Participate in editorial meetings and actively contribute story ideas.

Write in an engaging, authentic, and captivating style.

Combine live video, graphics, and sound to create immersive experiences for audiences.

Provide continuous live coverage for breaking news and community events.

Explore new approaches and challenge traditional methods after discussion with supervisors.

Incorporate community perspectives and emotional conversations to guide content.

Use data analytics to shape story selection and show content.

Ensure diverse communities and viewpoints are represented in coverage.

Some fill-in anchoring opportunities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Digital Media and storytelling, or a related field.

1-3 years of reporting experience preferred.

Solid news judgment, strong communication skills, creativity, and ethical decision-making skills.

Strong writing and production skills.

ENPS, EDIUS, and Axis graphics experience preferred.

Must be organized with the ability to work under constant deadlines and calmly handle live breaking news situations.

Proven social and digital content creation ability.

Knowledge of East Texas is a plus.
