Overview
As a Working Production Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising shop employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment while actively participating in hands‑on machine operation and production activities. This role combines leadership responsibilities with direct involvement on the shop floor to ensure efficient, high‑quality output.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Balance safety, quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Work to continuously improve in all areas.
Manage departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provide regular progress reports to manager.
Provide employee coaching and development.
Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.
Provide leadership.
Manage QDRs.
Maintain proper inventory levels.
Manage department priorities.
Track absenteeism and timekeeping.
Ensure knowledge of all PPE, train reports on usage, and enforce proper PPE use.
Ensure housekeeping is performed daily according to cleaning schedules.
Lead accident investigation initiatives, report incidents immediately, and provide monthly safety training. Ensure Incident Reports are completed promptly.
Quality
Regularly monitor the quality of products being made, direct lead operators in corrective action to eliminate non‑compliant parts.
Identify NCP patterns, including worker, machine, and material causes and provide immediate corrective action.
Work with maintenance to address any mechanical issues.
Provide training in measurement of product and use of various gauges and tooling to ensure quality output.
Prepare daily production reports.
Productivity
Using known speed and feed charts, ensure line leads follow required speeds and that all areas operate at maximum capacity.
Train new operators on safety, machine operation, achieving maximum speeds, and ensuring SOPs are followed; ensure all machine settings are strictly adhered to.
Inform employees of performance against daily goals that are set.
Track KPI – production performance per shift; 100% of planned production is the goal.
Use all resources to ensure areas are fully staffed and cross‑training occurs to create a matrix of workers who can cover absences.
Help recruit and encourage employee referrals.
Requirements
Education & Certifications
Associate’s degree or equivalent required.
5+ years of experience in a production environment.
Previous quality management experience.
3+ years of prior supervisory experience.
Perform other related duties as assigned by managers.
