Position Overview
WSB Radio Atlanta is seeking a strategic, innovative, team-oriented, and passionate journalist to serve as Assistant News Director. This role requires a leader who is deeply committed to local news, upholds the highest standards of unbiased and impactful reporting, and possesses hands‑on experience managing a dynamic news team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with all aspects of short and long‑form news coverage
- Collaborate with reporters on stories and act as a content editor
- Exhibit excellent communication, organization, judgment, and writing skills
- Anchor live coverage of breaking news and/or special events
- Conduct live and/or recorded interviews
- Stay consistently up to date on local, national and international stories
- Assist the News Director with hiring and day‑to‑day management of the news team
- Create a monthly newsroom schedule
- Develop talent through feedback, performance management and internal training opportunities
- Operate news software such as NewsBoss or Burli
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Coordinate with the digital team to integrate reporter content into digital and social platforms
Minimum Qualifications
- At least three years of newsroom management experience
- Strong writing and editorial skills
- Bachelor’s degree required (Journalism, English or Communications preferred)
- Willingness to work a schedule that includes holidays and non‑traditional hours
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
