About UMAI Foundation
UMAI Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Torrance, California.
We support children battling cancer and other serious medical conditions through sewing, fashion design, and creative arts. Our programs help kids regain motor skills, build confidence, and find joy during some of the toughest moments of their lives.
We are currently preparing our young designers for LA Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026, where they will present their handmade outfits inspired by strength, courage, and creativity.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Volunteer Content Writer / Editor to help us tell our story with clarity, warmth, and impact.
You will play a key role in shaping how the public sees UMAI Foundation and how we communicate with donors, partners, families, and the community.
This position is perfect for someone who loves writing, storytelling, and editing — and wants to use these skills to make a real difference for children and families.
This is a remote-friendly role with flexible hours.
What You’ll Do
Edit and polish short articles, stories, and program descriptions
Help refine website text and landing pages
Review emails to donors, sponsors, and partner organizations
Create short, inspiring content for social media
Assist in preparing press releases or media outreach
Ensure consistency, clarity, and emotional impact across all communications
Help craft the narrative around UMAI’s participation in LA Fashion Week
You don’t need to do everything above — we will tailor the role based on your strengths.
Ideal Candidate
You might be a great fit if you are:
Passionate about helping children and families
Strong in writing, editing, or storytelling
Detail-oriented and comfortable polishing text
Experienced in nonprofit, PR, communications, or journalism (not required)
Friendly, reliable, and responsive
Able to commit 4-6 hours per week
Students, emerging writers, and professionals building their portfolio are welcome.
