Hillside Christian Church, Amarillo, TX, United States

Job type: Full Time

Hillside Amarillo West Campus Audio Director

Amarillo, Texas

Intro

The Amarillo West Campus Audio Director leads all audio production for weekend worship services, student ministries, and special events at Hillside Amarillo West Campus, while building and developing a volunteer audio team that serves with excellence. This role is part of Hillside’s Worship Technology team and reports to the Campus Worship Technology Director. The right person for this role is a skilled audio engineer who is also a pastor at heart—someone who cares as much about the people on their team as the sound coming through the speakers.

Key Responsibilities

Sunday Services & Mid-week programming. Operate or supervise FOH audio for all weekend services, maintaining the cross-campus audio standards for both music and message clarity. Oversee all technical aspects for Wednesday night student worship, including setup, strike, and coordination with Student Ministry staff.

Volunteer Team Development. Recruit, schedule, and train audio volunteers at all skill levels. Meet regularly with volunteers for coaching, feedback, and spiritual encouragement, building a culture of community and excellence. Develop clear pathways for growth from beginner roles to independent mixing.

Gear Management & Quality Control. Maintain, organize, and inventory all audio equipment. Perform regular preventive maintenance checks and use pre-service checklists to ensure consistent performance. Coordinate repairs through the Worship Technology Director or Central Services team.

Collaboration & Communication. Attend weekly meetings with the Worship Technology Director. Coordinate proactively with worship leaders, video, and lighting teams. Participate in church-wide worship technology meetings and support other campuses as needed.

What a strong candidate would look like:

The ideal candidate is a skilled audio engineer and team leader who is also a committed follower of Jesus. He or she brings professional-level proficiency in FOH mixing, monitormixing, microphone technique, EQ, compression, and system tuning—and can apply those skills across both musical and teaching contexts. Beyond technical ability, this person is a self-starter who initiates improvements, maintains equipment proactively, and does not wait to be told what needs attention.

This person understands that audio volunteers are not just crew—they are disciples. He or she builds relationships with volunteers, meets with them regularly, and cares about their faith and growth, not just their performance. Strong candidates will demonstrate a track record of developing volunteer teams and can point to leaders they have developed. They communicate clearly, are coachable, collaborate well with staff and volunteers, have high emotional intelligence, and represent Biblical values on and off the platform.

About Hillside:

The church started as one campus in Amarillo in 1956. After being landlocked and still growing, in 2006, the church relocated in Amarillo under the leadership of Tommy Politz (now Pastor Emeritus) and changed its name to Hillside Christian Church. Hillside continued to experience rapid growth that season and decided to add campuses in different locations. Hillside now consists of 10 physical campuses in the Texas Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico.

The church is led by Senior Pastor Johnathan Mast, who assumed the role in 2024 after serving on staff for 23 years. The church continues to grow, experience hundreds of baptisms every year, and is committed to helping people experience the Love of Christ.
