Job Summary

Seeking a Technical Writer for the development, maintenance, and oversight of comprehensive technical documentation supporting complex software, systems engineering, and operational programs

This role involves translating highly technical information into clear, accurate, and user‑friendly documentation for a wide range of audiences, including end users, engineers, and program stakeholders

The Technical Writer works closely with developers, engineers, and subject matter experts to produce high‑quality documentation aligned with DoD and NSA standards, including DS‑89

Primary Responsibilities

Prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documentation including system operations, software documentation, test procedures, and user guides

Develop installation, configuration, implementation, and end‑user documentation for hardware and software systems

Create and maintain code documentation, data definitions, and data flow diagrams

Produce technical publications based on engineering drawings, system documentation, and SME input

Support development of user manuals, training materials, and operational guides for complex systems

Research and synthesize highly technical subject matter, translating it into clear, concise written content

Maintain and manage a centralized documentation library ensuring version control and accessibility

Utilize tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and other documentation platforms

Collaborate with developers and engineers to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation

Prepare reports, briefings, and responses for both technical and non‑technical audiences

Coordinate layout, formatting, and design of technical documents

Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings, system specifications, and operational procedures

Apply NSA Technical Manual Standard DS‑89 and other applicable documentation standards

Provide oversight and quality review of documentation produced by other team members

Lead or support large or complex documentation efforts, ensuring consistency and compliance

Work independently to develop and maintain highly complex system and program documentation

Required Qualifications

Must have active Top Secret/SCI clearance with NSA Full Scope Polygraph

8+ years of experience as a Technical Writer supporting programs of similar scope and complexity

Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (or equivalent experience substitution)

Master’s degree may substitute for 2 years of experience

4 additional years of Technical Writer experience may substitute for a degree

Strong understanding of technical writing principles, grammar, and document development processes

Experience producing DoD or IC technical documentation, including user manuals and training materials

Ability to interpret and document engineering, software, and operational information

Experience working with multiple documentation tools and formats

Desired Qualifications

Experience supporting cryptologic or intelligence community programs

Familiarity with analytic tradecraft documentation

Experience applying NSA DS‑89 standards in documentation development

Ability to lead documentation efforts and mentor junior writers

Strong organizational, communication, and attention‑to‑detail skills

Exempt hourly position. 11 paid holidays, minimum of 3 weeks PTO, company sponsored group medical plan, company paid dental, vision, life insurance, and STD/LTD plans. Salary is dependent upon the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
