Company Description
Osprey Studios is dedicated to nurturing independent journalism by providing a SoHo-based studio and production hub. The company offers essential infrastructure, including advertising sales, marketing, and event support, enabling journalists to focus solely on creating impactful work. By collaborating with prominent partners like Longview Investigations, The Gist, and The Fifth Column, Osprey Media fosters journalism driven by curiosity and integrity. Our mission is to support authentic voices and meaningful storytelling.
Role Description
We’re looking for a sharp, well-connected PR professional to join our team. You’ll own our media relations and public presence, generating buzz around both breaking developments and evergreen content. You’ll work directly with editorial and leadership to tell our story and amplify our work.
What You’ll Do
Build and execute PR strategies for news-driven stories and long-form evergreen digital content.
Leverage your existing relationships in NYC and national media markets to secure coverage, placements, and earned media.
Respond quickly to fast-moving news cycles - pitching, placing, and promoting on tight timelines.
Support growth and visibility for our podcast and digital media properties.
Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and producers across mainstream, digital, and heterodox media.
Craft compelling pitches, press releases, and media materials that speak the language of modern journalism.
Work cross-functionally within a lean startup team.
What We’re Looking For
5+ years of PR experience with a clear track record in journalism, digital media, or news-adjacent verticals.
Deep, active relationships with journalists, editors, and media figurets, especially in the New York market.
Genuine familiarity with the independent, non-partisan journalism space; you know the players, the publications, and the conversations.
Experience promoting podcasts and digital-native media properties.
Instincts for news: you know what’s a story, you know who wants it, and you can move fast.
Comfort operating in a startup environment.
Ability to work in person, in the office at least part-time in New York.
You’re Probably Not the Right Fit If
You need a large team or an established infrastructure to do your best work.
Your media relationships are mostly theoretical or concentrated in traditional PR beats.
You’ve only worked at agencies and haven’t been embedded inside an editorial or media organization.
What We Offer
A seat at the table in a genuinely exciting media project.
Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
The chance to shape how an emerging media brand is seen and heard.
A team that respects your expertise and gets out of your way.
