Senior UX Motion Designer (Consumer Products)

San Francisco, CA

6-Month Contract

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior UX Motion Designer to support a large-scale consumer product organization during a period of increased business demand through the end of the year. This role will work across multiple product initiatives, contributing to both strategic motion design projects and smaller implementation-focused updates.

The ideal candidate is a motion design specialist with deep expertise in product-focused animation, strong systems thinking, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure high-quality implementation across platforms.

This is not a marketing or video-editing role — it is a product-centered UX motion design position focused on scalable, production-ready motion experiences for consumer applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver high-quality motion experiences across consumer-facing mobile and web products
  • Lead motion execution for large-scale strategic initiatives while supporting smaller ad-hoc motion requests
  • Create polished 2D motion assets, transitions, micro-interactions, onboarding animations, loading states, and interaction feedback
  • Optimize and export animation assets from After Effects into implementation-ready formats
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure accurate and performant implementation
  • Define animation specifications, reusable motion behaviors, and scalable motion patterns
  • Balance creative storytelling with technical feasibility and platform constraints
  • Work cross-functionally with UX Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders across multiple workstreams

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional motion design experience within product or UX environments
  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe After Effects
  • Strong experience with Lottie workflows and JSON-based animation handoff
  • Familiarity with Skottie or similar implementation technologies
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma
  • Strong understanding of UX principles, interaction design, and motion systems
  • Experience shipping motion experiences within live consumer products
  • Ability to communicate technical motion requirements effectively with engineering teams
  • Experience creating highly optimized animation exports for production environments
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating motion work for large-scale consumer applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on mobile-first consumer applications and large-scale digital ecosystems
  • Background in big tech, design-forward product organizations, or specialized motion/interactions studios
  • Exposure to both 2D and some 3D motion workflows
  • Experience designing for products with millions of users
  • Familiarity with motion accessibility standards and scalable design systems
  • Comfortable operating independently with a high degree of ownership and autonomy

What We’re Looking For

  • Motion design specialist with strong visual polish and systems thinking
  • Excellent communicator who can partner effectively with engineering teams
  • Strategic mindset with strong execution capabilities
  • Detail-oriented and highly collaborative
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced product environment

Work Environment

  • Preference for candidates working within or overlapping significantly with Pacific Time Zone hours
  • Fully remote flexibility available for the right candidate
  • Highly cross-functional and collaborative environment with close interaction between design and engineering teams

Interview Process

The interview process will evaluate both creative and technical motion expertise and may include:

  • Portfolio and motion systems discussion
  • Technical implementation and workflow conversation
  • Cross-functional collaboration and communication assessment
  • Peer discussions with design and engineering stakeholders

Thanks,

Nandit
