We are seeking a passionate, community-driven volunteer Journalist in Omaha, NE, to amplify the voices and missions of nonprofit organizations through impactful storytelling and media coverage. The successful candidate will research, interview, and create written content that highlights community initiatives, nonprofit achievements, and stories that align with the Brickers Foundation’s mission of strengthening and connecting communities.

This role is ideal for individuals looking to build experience in journalism, media, communications, and nonprofit storytelling while contributing to meaningful social impact initiatives.

Duties

Research, develop, and write articles, interviews, features, and community spotlight stories for publication across the Brickers Foundation platforms.

Conduct interviews with nonprofit leaders, volunteers, and community members to gather accurate and engaging information.

Collaborate with media, marketing, copywriting, and publicist teams to support organizational campaigns and initiatives.

Attend virtual or in-person community events when applicable to document and report on activities and outreach efforts.

Proofread and edit content to ensure professionalism, clarity, and alignment with the organization’s mission and values.

Assist in creating content for newsletters, blogs, social media captions, and website features.

Maintain ethical journalism standards, including fact-checking and accurate representation of information.

Requirements

Capacity to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as necessary.

Proficiency with digital collaboration tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom) and digital communication platforms.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Interest in journalism, media, nonprofit work, storytelling, or community engagement

Experience in writing, blogging, reporting, communications, or related fields is preferred but not required.
