Responsibilities
CBS News is seeking a Producer with strong organizational skills and editorial instincts to work with Chief Correspondent, Matt Gutman. This role will be based in Los Angeles. This role will create dynamic, visual content across multiple platforms, including network broadcasts, digital, streaming, and social. The ideal candidate will have a clear understanding of what it takes to produce live and taped segments, plus understand the logistics of scheduling live shots with crews that are balancing newsgathering. You should have the editorial instincts to recognize developing news stories to ensure we are in the right places at the right times, ahead of the story. A successful candidate is someone who’s worked in a highly functioning, quick‑paced newsroom, is highly organized and calm during breaking news. This person is a pro at multi‑tasking, a passionate journalist, a consummate team player. You must also be excellent at developing and nurturing relationships with other correspondents, producers, reporters, photographers, managers, technicians, and other staff members inside and beyond the newsroom. Applicants must be willing to work various shifts including weekends, holidays, overnights, and across all time zones as needed, especially in the wake of breaking news.

Required Skills and Experience

At least five years of local and/or network TV or cable news field producing experience

Strong editorial judgement

Highly developed relationship‑building skills

Ability to multi‑task and thrive in a dynamic, quickly changing environment

Focus on multi‑media content

Understanding of TV newsgathering and transmission technology

Ability to travel domestically and internationally, without restriction

Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with the ability and willingness to drive

Desired Skills and Experience

Ability to shoot and basic editing knowledge

Candidate should have a keen editorial eye for compelling stories

Successful candidate needs to operate under tight deadlines as well as being fast moving and flexible

Ability to thrive in all environments and comfortable with breaking news coverage including natural disasters, tragedies, high‑profile interviews, and investigative stories

Additional Information
Hiring Salary Range: $95,000.00 - 150,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
