Job Description
Atria Books seeks a creative and hands‑on developmental editor to work directly with authors on a list of bestselling and breakout commercial romance and fantasy fiction. The right candidate will have experience editing commercial fiction, a passion for romance and fantasy genres, and a desire to focus on editorial craft above all else. Reporting to the Executive Editor, this role will work closely on a collaborative list of titles, provide editorial direction and support to authors, guide manuscripts through all phases of publication, and help grow a dynamic list of bestselling fiction.
Requirements
5+ years of editorial experience, including structural and line editing expertise, and managing books through the production process. Book publishing experience preferred.
Passion for romance and fantasy genres with market knowledge of trends.
Excellent author and agent relationship‑building skills.
Exceptional written and verbal skills.
Ability to meet deadlines, be detail‑oriented, and manage long‑term projects.
Capable of working independently and as part of a team with a positive, collaborative attitude.
Responsibilities
Work directly with authors on developmental, structural, and line edits on up to 15‑20 books per year.
Oversee the book production process, including reviewing copy edits, interior passes, and cover mechanicals.
Draft jacket copy, fact sheets, and online selling copy.
Develop ongoing relationships with authors and agents.
Oversee production and editorial schedules.
Manage special editions and reprint editions of frontlist and backlist titles.
Collaborate with the Executive Editor and other team members on list strategy.
Attend Editorial Board and IP Development meetings and offer feedback to editorial peers.

Compensation and Benefits
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington State, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
