CNN is seeking a Senior Motion Graphics Designer to lead high‑impact visual storytelling across video, digital, streaming, and social platforms. The Senior Motion Graphics Designer will shape the visual look of shows, partnering closely with producers, editors, and editorial teams to define the visual language of CNN’s next generation of streaming and on‑demand content—including digital series, explainers, video podcasts, breaking news coverage and long‑form storytelling.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional designer and animator with strong editorial instincts and the leadership presence to assist with art direction on projects from concept through delivery. This person thrives in fast‑paced news environments and can translate complex reporting into compelling, accurate, and visually dynamic storytelling.
Your Role Accountabilities
- Art direct comprehensive graphics packages for shows and cross‑platform projects, including establishing design systems and style guides
- Help define and maintain the ongoing development of motion design best practices for streaming
- Present creative concepts and visual approaches to senior editorial and creative stakeholders
- Provide feedback and guidance to junior animators
- Design and animate motion graphics for digital video, streaming programs, social platforms, and video podcasts
- Translate scripts, reporting, and data into clear, accurate, and engaging visual narratives
- Execute projects across varying timelines—from same‑day breaking news turnarounds to longer‑term feature work
- Produce high‑quality animation under tight deadlines without compromising editorial accuracy
- Create templates, toolkits, and modular animation systems for recurring franchises and multi‑platform distribution
- Design and build robust MOGRTs to enable scalable, efficient graphics workflows for editors and producers
- Maintain and evolve CNN’s visual standards and brand consistency across platforms
Qualifications & Experience
- 7–10+ years of professional motion graphics experience in news, media, production or digital storytelling
- Demonstrated experience supervising visuals for series or large‑scale editorial projects
- Expert‑level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, and Photoshop
- 3D design and animation experience (Cinema 4D, Blender, or similar)
- Experience building comprehensive graphics packages and visual systems, including advanced expertise in After Effects expressions, scripting, and MOGRT workflows
- Proven ability to work effectively in high‑pressure, deadline‑driven news environments
- Strong design fundamentals, including typography, color theory, composition, and information hierarchy
- Experience presenting creative concepts and articulating visual strategy to stakeholders
- Expertise with data visualization and infographic animation
- Proficiency with mapping tools such as GEOlayers, Mapbox, and Google Earth Studio
- Experience creating and optimizing graphics for social video, streaming platforms and video podcasts
- Must be willing to work early mornings, late nights and weekends as needed for news coverage and deadlines
Compensation and Benefits
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation range for this role. Base pay is $82,740.00 – $153,660.00 per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentives, program‑specific awards, health insurance, employee wellness programs, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time, and vacation.
