Editor (Local News System)

Overview
USA TODAY Co., Inc. seeks an experienced Editor to oversee operations at four small newsrooms across Middle Tennessee (Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Columbia, and Jackson). The Editor will schedule and direct the news staff to create storytelling that informs, entertains, and engages specific audiences across multiple platforms.

Typical Responsibilities

Develop and maintain daily and weekly local news coverage plans.

Coach staff to provide quality content (articles, photos, videos).

Represent the newspaper in the community and maintain outreach activities.

Collaborate with the regional news operations team to share content.

Coordinate presentation with digital and print planners.

Plan training for news staff.

Promote personal and institutional brand.

Complete administrative duties within the news department.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience and education.

Five years’ experience developing a personal brand through reporting or editing across online or print, and utilizing social media platforms.

Experience with advanced storytelling techniques on multiple platforms.

Knowledge of social media and customer feedback tools and audience analytic tools (Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, Google Analytics).

Exceptional journalism, planning, and organizational skills with ability to multi-task and excel under deadline pressure.

Self‑motivated, self‑directed, and collaborative with diverse personalities.

Strong writing, spelling, grammar, AP Style, media law, and ethical conduct knowledge.

Proficiency in MS Office suite and CMS publishing skills.
