Full‑time Position: Communication Specialist
Location: on‑site in Purcellville, VA
Position Summary:
The Communication Specialist (CS) at Patrick Henry College produces, edits, and distributes a majority of the media content for PHC. In addition to writing and editing stories for publication, the CS is responsible for creating and editing electronic communications, social media content, web content, and web services. With direction from the Director of Communication, the CS will implement marketing plans across multiple channels for campus events and newsworthy developments. The CS will also organize and manage events as needed. Media and technology are constantly evolving, so the CS must innovate and consistently keep PHC in the forefront of the public eye.
Essential Job Functions:
Writing and editing content for publication via print and electronic distribution
Developing, managing, and maintaining the website and all social media platforms
Implementing marketing plans for the College and its events
Constantly seeking to innovate and develop new marketing/communication strategies for the college
Strong preference given to applicants with experience in Adobe Creative Suite, photography/photo manipulation, videography, and video production
Other Functions:
Supporting the Offices of Admission and Advancement as necessary
Hiring and managing student workers to best utilize available resources
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Enthusiastic support for Patrick Henry College’s mission and statement of faith
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Three years of experience in writing, editing, public relations, and marketing
Well‑versed in website design and maintenance
Ability to use various CMS systems
Willingness to travel
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong computer skills
Ability to handle numerous projects simultaneously
Results‑oriented team player
Demonstrated attention to detail
Physical Requirements
Reaching, standing, stooping, lifting a minimum of 30 lbs, answering phone calls, extensive computer work, and typing.
