Join our team as an Art Director - In Phoenix or US-Remote
Phoenix-based Angell Marketing is an award-winning, full-service agency that provides marketing services, advertising and sales-management consulting for senior living communities across the country. Angell’s creative team – including its art directors – is responsible for executing on all design projects across every media channel to create lead generating, lead-nurturing, and awareness-building advertising campaigns to meet the goals of our clients. The art director is the primary designer at Angell Marketing and is assigned to both client projects and Angell Marketing projects as needed. The art director is actively involved in advocating for each client’s cohesive brand visual and market positioning. They are responsible for conceptualizing and executing creative visual concepts that align with our clients’ brand objectives. The role involves both hands‑on design work and strategic thinking to ensure our campaigns are visually impactful and effectively communicate our clients’ messages.
Functional Responsibilities
Creative
Produce high-quality, original designs for a wide range of marketing materials, including direct mail, collateral, print ads, digital assets, social media content, and more
Actively participate in creative kick‑off meetings and brainstorming sessions and offer proactive ideas that push our agency and clients ahead of the competition
Stay up to date on industry trends and shifting communication styles for our target audience: seniors
Work closely with copywriters and other team members to bring creative concepts to life while meeting project deadlines
Work closely with creative director(s) to ensure quality of designed work is maintained and brand standards are followed
Work with clients and client services team to understand detailed visual requirements
Provide input on design‑in‑progress when client service or clients question the direction to help interpret and redirect/defend design work
Serve as a guide to visual thinking, but also help with overall workflow as needed to ensure our processes are efficient and aren’t missing vital steps
Work with printers and other vendors to bring new options to the table and to ensure quality, on‑time delivery of every project
Communication
Bring targeted questions and provide input and guidance in all meetings and creative discussions, leaving these conversations with clear next steps
Present and explain design concepts to clients, as needed, incorporating their feedback and making revisions as necessary to meet their expectations
Strategic Planning Support
Participate in clients’ annual planning, reviewing the prior year’s work and making specific recommendations for design to meet goals for coming fiscal year

Preferred Requirements
A degree in graphic design, visual communication or a related subject, or equivalent professional experience
10 or more years of experience as a graphic designer or art director
Exceptional portfolio showcasing a range of work
Proficiency in all Adobe Creative Cloud design programs, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, and willingness to stay abreast of emerging programs
Strong conceptual thinking and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
Knowledge of senior living and the needs and desires of seniors from both an emotional and visual design language – OR transferable experience and a willingness to learn about this audience
Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate the creative vision, concepts, ideas and solutions clearly and effectively
Ability to work quickly, even when faced with new challenges
Ability to work effectively in a team setting, including synthesizing abstract ideas into effective tactics
Ability to be client facing and present work
Ability to travel to home office on a quarterly basis or as needed
This position reports directly to Angell Marketing’s Senior Creative Director.
