Senior High Play Lighting/Sound Designer

Cooperstown Central School District is seeking a knowledgeable and creative Lighting and Sound Designer for the Senior High School play. This role supports the success of the production by overseeing all technical aspects of theatrical lighting and sound, ensuring that the technical design enhances the artistic vision and provides a professional-level experience for student performers and audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and execute lighting and sound plans that support the creative direction of the production.
Collaborate with the play director and technical staff to determine cue placement, timing, and equipment needs.
Set up, operate, and strike all lighting and audio equipment for rehearsals and performances.
Program lighting cues and sound playback using school-provided consoles and software.
Supervise and train student tech crew in proper setup, operation, and safety protocols.
Maintain and troubleshoot lighting and sound systems and coordinate repairs as needed.
Ensure all technical elements are in place for tech week, dress rehearsals, and performances.
Attend production meetings, technical rehearsals, and all show dates.
Qualifications:
Experience in lighting and sound design for theatrical productions, preferably in a school or educational setting.
Familiarity with lighting systems (DMX-based consoles, LED fixtures, etc.) and audio systems (wireless mics, digital mixing boards, playback software).
Strong technical troubleshooting skills and a working knowledge of stage safety standards.
Ability to lead and mentor students in lighting and sound operation.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with production staff and students.
Reliable, organized, and able to meet production timelines and deadlines.
Availability for after-school, evening, and weekend rehearsals and performances.
