Samsung Design Innovation Center (SDIC) in San Francisco is building a small, nimble team to redefine the future of digital health, working at the intersection of design, AI, and human experience. This one‑year contract role (potential extension to full‑time) focuses on agentic and conversational AI to create future‑ready health and fitness experiences.
We are looking for talented designers ready to contribute across all stages of product design—from uncovering unmet needs and identifying new opportunities to prototyping and launching innovative, AI‑rich products that re‑imagine how users interact with devices.
SDIC’s mission is to understand people and lifestyles to deliver meaningful experiences through beautiful, functional design enabled by cutting‑edge technology. Our work appears on smartphones, tablets, computers, televisions, wearables, and emerging devices.
Please note that this is a 12‑month contract, 5 days a week, in‑person at our San Francisco office.
Position Summary
The Principal AI Interaction Designer is an individual contributor responsible for creating beautiful, functional, and desirable interfaces and experiences with a focus on AI‑driven, agentic, conversational, and context‑aware interactions for Samsung’s digital health offerings. You will lead projects, set design standards, and ensure a high bar for quality and innovation.
We seek passionate, self‑motivated individuals comfortable in a fluid, exploratory environment. You will bring drive, curiosity, and a desire to shape next‑generation digital health experiences powered by AI.
Position Responsibilities
Lead projects and engage stakeholders to gather input and evaluate options.
Conceptualize, visualize, and develop product ideas emphasizing future AI‑driven health experiences.
Integrate AI through conversational and agentic systems to improve user experience.
Translate complex concepts into simple, understandable interactions.
Produce wireframes, rapid prototypes, conduct user testing, and execute interaction and visual design.
Collaborate closely with designers and engineers on products and features.
Craft experiences that meet set goals and achieve successful outcomes.
Develop prototypes at varying fidelity levels to support iterative design.
Ask the right questions, conduct user testing alone or with peers.
Extend beyond expectations to push ideas forward.
Travel internationally and domestically and work overtime when required.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Design, HCI, Product Management, Engineering, or equivalent.
16+ years of UX design experience with project management or leadership responsibilities.
Deep understanding of user behaviors and interactions across hardware/software, mobile, voice interfaces, etc.
Experience leading complex design and innovation projects.
Proficiency in leveraging AI to enhance user experience.
Strong HCI skills and a robust appetite for user research.
Excellent grasp of design thinking, design principles, and methodologies.
Ability to develop design hypotheses, prototype, test, sketch, and visualize bold ideas and user scenarios.
Strong communication skills for pitching concepts to stakeholders.
Documentation expertise: scenarios, wireframes, visual designs, and prototypes.
Clear, concise communication, proactive initiative, and comfort starting projects from scratch.
Hourly Pay Rate Range
$150 – $175 USD
