The Role:
This position provides advanced audiovisual (A/V) technical support for Central Washington University, including the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a wide range of academic and enterprise systems. Responsibilities include electronic system integration, protocol management, support across multiple operating systems, and delivery of technical training. The role supports an extensive infrastructure of more than 35,000 pieces of electronic equipment across over 300 instructional and event spaces, including classrooms, conference rooms, collaboration spaces, a planetarium, athletic venues, augmented and virtual reality labs, aviation simulators, high-definition television studios, music studios, and distance education environments. This position works in close collaboration with CWU's Multimodal Learning department to support distance education programs and partners with community colleges statewide to design, implement, and maintain audiovisual systems that enable high-quality remote instruction.

Job Duties
Troubleshooting A/V Issues
- Timely diagnosis and resolution of A/V and computer issues for all classrooms, meeting rooms, and other spaces using A/V testing equipment, computers, and hand tools.
- Methods include troubleshooting deductions, rewiring existing equipment, A/V test equipment, equipment manuals, working with technicians in other parts of the organization, contacting vendors and manufacturers, and searching Internet websites and forums.
- Troubleshooting IP data connectivity issues, protocol issues, interface issues, and hardware issues.
- Outcome: Ensure minimal disruption or downtime, enabling academic classes, events, and conferences to adhere to their schedules and commence punctually.
Install and Maintain Audiovisual Equipment
- Build, install, repair, and maintain A/V and related equipment for CWU's classrooms and meetings rooms and satellite locations. May require to operate state-owned vehicle.
- Build custom interface cables and/ or install protocol translations devices to allow compatible with equipment communication interface.
- Integrate equipment with many different protocols and manufacturers for room A/V automation.
- Work with manuals and testing equipment to troubleshoot and resolve equipment communications issues.
- Coordinate outside vendors and contractors, Facilities department, and Telecom department to complete projects on time.
- Outcome: Delivers dependable AV systems and room automation, ensuring equipment and room environments function as anticipated. Aims to minimize disruptions, downtime, and the risk of class or event failures.
Technical Expert
- Act as an expert resource for hardware and software questions
- Complex troubleshooter helping solve the most technical A/V engineering questions regarding sound and visual performance.
- Stay current on emerging trends, product development and industries best practices.
- Provides scheduled delivery for equipment and on department projects, provides resources to keep projects on schedule.
- Works with manufacturers on defective equipment returns/ replacements.
- Acts as a liaison between technicians and clients or vendors, contractors.
- Outcome: Provides AV systems and room automation that adhere to current industry standards, ensuring equipment reliability, security, and alignment with the desired outcomes of the venue.
Audio/Visual System Engineering/Design
- Work with clients or departments to evaluate equipment requests and needs to achieve desired goals.
- Utilize technical expertise, conduct product research, and engage in consultations with A/V equipment vendors, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to design cost-effective A/V systems.
- Design room layout CAD drawings using information from potential vendors/construction contractors/end user requirements.
- Use project management tools to create plans that meet or exceed end user requirements.
- Stay current on emerging trends, product development and industries best practices.
- Outcome: Offering cost-effective design solutions aligned with desired objectives, along with future-proof designs adaptable to support emerging technologies.
Event Setup for A/V
- Setup A/V equipment for campus events that may require live streaming or recording.
- Setup cameras, video switchers, video codecs, wireless microphones, amplifiers and speakers, computer workstations, and PA systems.
- Integrate supplemental equipment to existing premise equipment.
- Providing technical support during events.
- Outcome: Events or performances run smoothly and successfully, free from technical difficulties or disruptions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronic design or related field
3 years A/V system design/engineering technician experience
Software integration programing or related experience
Experience with MS Windows and Mac OS computer administration
Valid driver's license for travel to remote locations
Demonstrated ability and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or colleagues to foster a supportive and effective learning and work environment
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position
Preferred Qualifications Computer programming experience: IP, Rs232, RS422, HDBaseT, Crestron DM, GPI & GPO control circuits
Experience with design and implementation of Virtual Reality systems
CTS or CTS-D certification

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary : This position is based on the range 47 of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $50,592 and maximum annual salary of $67,992. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
Schedule/Appointment : Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)
Working Conditions : This position may work indoors and outdoors at times in hot/cold
oisy/dirty/confined areas such as crawl spaces, above ceiling and under cabinets or furniture, and may need to physically access work areas with the equipment and tools necessary for completion of the job. This often requires standing/crawling/bending/walking/climbing while carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with equipment or tools. Occasional overtime is required, and shift work may be required. May need to drive a service vehicle in congested areas.
