The Senior Multimedia Producer contributes to creation and production of video content for digital, streaming, and social media platforms on Boston Globe Media’s network. The role involves managing all production phases from pre‑to‑post for short‑form and long‑form video, with emphasis on vertical video formats.
The Producer works with reporters, producers, and the video director to develop and produce news stories for on‑location and in‑house filming. The position requires a self‑starter able to multitask in a fast‑paced newsroom, demonstrating advanced shooting, audio, editing, and graphics skills. The Producer also supports podcast production, live events, and new multimedia initiatives.
Responsibilities

Consistently produce high‑quality video journalism using compelling video, photography, and/or audio that accurately reflects the story and meets technical standards.
Follow newsroom guidelines while operating with a strong sense of journalistic ethics.
Oversee field and studio production, including shooting, editing, audio recording, scripts, rundowns, lighting, and multi‑camera productions.
Work with reporters and editors across the newsroom to identify and produce timely video pieces.
Create digital video using own and external work, including wire and web sources.
Generate video ideas: pitch, develop, research, write stories and scripts; manage production for multiple ongoing projects on location and in the studio.
Partner with audience engagement and social media teams to produce innovative social and vertical video projects.
Work autonomously in a fast‑paced environment.
Follow the company’s best practices for video editing and workflow.
Use strong reporting skills to lead and edit short news videos and features, advancing stories visually.
Apply advanced multimedia, animations, video, and audio techniques to tell the story.
Essential Job Functions

Collaborate with newsroom staff to develop video ideas and projects responding to evolving audience needs.
Provide creative oversight and communicate concepts to the video director.
Determine production schedules, ensuring projects are completed on time and according to artistic and technical standards.
Adhere to and be accountable for all approved editorial and production standards set by the Video Director and Deputy Multimedia Director.
Lead and coordinate host, reporters, story producers, and creative/technical personnel throughout production.
Manage pre‑production including storyboarding, script editing, pre‑interviewing, securing locations, scheduling, and coordination with multiple newsroom teams.
Communicate with video director, editors, production technicians, and talent to convey shoot requirements and perform on‑location responsibilities.
Monitor post‑production processes, including editing and review via Vimeo, ensuring accurate completion of all creative details.
Handle other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5+ years producing videos, preferably in a daily news environment.
College degree or equivalent required.
Demonstrated ability to write, record, create, edit, and produce multimedia features.
Comfortable working on tight deadlines and in high‑stress breaking news situations.
Experience with multiple camera setups, including Canon C100, C300, and various DSLR cameras.
High level of expertise in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Ability to work late hours and weekends.
Willingness to adapt, be audience‑focused, maintain a curious mindset, and commit to an inclusive work environment.
Location: The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston; candidates should be based in the area or willing to move.
Hourly rate: $44.46 – $53.84.
This position is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Boston Newspaper Guild.
