Summary of Position
The Museum of Art + Light (MoA+L) seeks an experienced audio video technician with advanced technical skills to join our Immersive Team and assist in showcasing our large‑scale projection mapping immersive exhibitions is 47,000 linear feet of video projection installation located in Manhattan, Kansas. This important dual role will combine video technician skill and IT, technical pipeline management also content management to deliver our immersive experience which will feature three, annually rotating animations adjacent to two permanent exhibition galleries where artistic themes purposely align.

Audio Video Technician Role
The Audio Video Technician plays a key role in the Museum’s immersive and fine art productions — supporting installation, infrastructure testing, system calibration, and vendor coordination.

Although suitable skill sets are key to this role, projection mapping and immersive experiences is a unique discipline and therefore experience in this specific field is not essential, but quick adaptability is a must as the successful candidate will be provided with training while working within a strict timeline.

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee integration and operation of advanced AV systems, including projection, lighting, sound, and networked control systems across our immersive galleries.

Serve as the go‑to AV resource for the Museum’s creative, curatorial, IT, and visitor experience teams, as well as for special events and community programs.

Schedule, lead, and mentor AV technicians and support staff with clarity and confidence.

Participate in pre‑production, content testing, and on‑site rehearsals for both in‑house immersive experiences and visiting artist programs.

Assist in asset management, including equipment tracking, inspection routines, and preventive maintenance plans for long‑term sustainability.

Collaborate with leadership to design and deliver training programs that empower AV staff and expand interactive capabilities.

Ensure a safe, energized, and professional work environment that fosters creativity and technical excellence.

Set and maintain the standard for AV innovation across the Museum’s multiple exhibition spaces, ensuring world‑class visitor experiences.

Analyze and troubleshoot technical and AV‑related challenges with professionalism and creativity.

Qualifications

Strong understanding of video codecs, rendering workflows, and signal distribution formats, with experience in systems integration.

Hands‑on experience with professional video projectors (large‑format projection and edge‑blending experience preferred).

Proficiency in video playback systems (e.g., media servers, content scheduling, show control platforms).

Working knowledge of professional audio systems, including playback, routing.

Understanding of electrical and power distribution systems in support of large‑scale AV environments.

Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator) for content preparation and integration into immersive shows.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and creative teams.

Commitment to maintaining the Museum’s standard of excellence in visitor experience.

Job Type: This is a Full‑Time exempt position. Hours outside of normal museum operations as required.

Knowledge and Experience: This position requires a minimum of 2-4 years’ experience, with two (2) years in an AV/IT capacity. Position requires a sound background in non‑profit institutional operations, with management and supervisory skills.

Demonstrate strong attention to detail in the setup, calibration, and operation of immersive projection, lighting, and sound systems.

Show passion for new technology and a willingness to learn emerging tools in AV, IT, and immersive media production.

Apply IT skills, including knowledge of PC hardware, networking, and system integration.

Maintain excellent organizational habits and a collaborative, team‑oriented approach.

Remain calm and effective under pressure during installations, live operations, and high‑traffic visitor hours.

Be flexible and available for varied work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and exhibition changeovers.

Hold a valid driver's license to assist with equipment transport and vendor coordination as needed.
