Language access is a core component of Fairfax County’s commitment to advancing racial and social equity. Under the direction of the Language Access Program Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating, assigning, and ensuring the effective delivery of interpretation and translation services in multiple languages for Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court (JDRDC) units and their partners. The role processes all language service requests in a timely and accurate manner and monitors daily utilization of vendors and volunteer services to inform budget allocation and resource planning. It also serves as a backup Spanish interpreter for urgent or last‑minute cases.
This position provides comprehensive management of the VIP–Volunteer Interpreter Program, including oversight of volunteer recruitment, outreach, training, and coaching. It functions as backup support to the Management Analyst I, troubleshoots operational issues that arise on a daily basis, and prepares reports, presentations, and other materials as assigned. The coordinator oversees quality assurance and manages workflow to ensure agency‑wide compliance with Title VI Limited English Proficiency (LEP) requirements. Responsibilities include developing, recommending, and implementing plans and initiatives to improve performance, quality, compliance, and operational efficiency. The position also supports a range of administrative and professional functions—such as procurement and contract administration, human resources‑related activities, information technology projects, and other related duties—as needed. Overall, this role is integral to ensuring that services are accessible, equitable, and effectively delivered to Fairfax County’s diverse community.

Illustrative Duties
Performs a wide-range of professional work in multiple administration functions within an organizational unit including analysis and project management.
May supervise administrative and paraprofessional staff.
Performs a variety of technical and professional work related to monitoring and reporting on departmental business processes, activities, and outcomes.
Plans, develops, and implements comprehensive communication and education plans on programs and services for both county agencies and community organizations.
Assists with developing and conducting special studies and research initiatives, including designing survey instruments, gathering data and information from department staff, developing data analysis tools, conducting statistical analyses, initiating literature reviews.
Conducts analysis and reporting of quantitative and qualitative data in order to track and monitor various business process indicators.
Serves as the point‑person and liaison within the department and with central county departments regarding a designated program and functional areas of responsibility.
Prepares reports and presentations of analysis and findings.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the mission, goals and objectives of the organizational unit, program or activities to which incumbent is assigned.
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques relating to various functional areas of business operation (e.g., personnel, budgeting and financial management, contract administration and management).
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques governing management, organization, operations and programmatic services.
Ability to identify and describe a range of possible solutions for solving business problems.
Ability to apply research methods to design studies and assessments, and statistical analysis techniques to identify patterns and trends in data.
Ability to use word processing and presentation software to prepare documents, and to use spreadsheet and statistical analysis software packages to store, manipulate, analyze and present data.
Ability to train, lead, and/or supervise paraprofessional staff.
Employment Standards
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in the field related to the assigned functional area; plus two years of professional work experience within the functional area.
Necessary Special Requirements

Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in English/Spanish.
Records Management Certification.
3 or more years of professional experience in providing interpretation and translation services.
2 or more years of experience in managing support staff, conducting trainings/public speaking, directly managing relationships and work products of private providers/vendors, creating training classes and materials, compliance oversight, and budget reporting.
2 or more years of experience with scheduling systems.
Experience with Title VI and Virginia’s Language Access Plan.
Physical Requirements
Duties are generally sedentary, performed in an office and courtroom environment.
Ability to read information on a computer monitor and operate keyboard‑based equipment.
Must be able to communicate clearly both in person and over the telephone.
